I haven't been around here much lately so I thought I would stop by and post a picture of the target I shot last Saturday. I was shooting my Ruger American 308 with a cheap Simmons 3X9X32 scope. I was planning to replace the scope and had it sold but I changed my mind after I shot this. I was using Federal 180gr and the target was at 100 yards.
I was making some fine adjustments to the scope and the barrel was pretty hot by the time I got to target #4. Yes I did have the target upside down, lol.

I also shot my Ruger Mark III at 50 yards using federal bulk pack ammo.

103 views and no replies? I know my shooting wouldn't win any awards but I thought it was pretty good for a cheap rifle with a cheap scope and shooting cheap ammo, lol.

@oilcangary: I think everyone is simply enjoying your post. Sometimes it would be nice to have a "like" button. Good shooting, though.

You experience was added inspiration for me to get a ruger american. I've been considering a .243, but may get a couple of the rimfires, first.

I may get two one for each of my stepson then they won't borrow my #1s. A 243 and a 308, no I am not adopting any more sons.

not bad Single-sixer, if you want to tighten that 308 up, try some 150
grain Sierras over 44 grains of Varget. that works well in my American. Paul

Thanks for the advice but I just like having fun, I'm not trying to set any records. I really like the Ruger American and would recommend it to anyone even if you already own a high dollar rifle. I've always wanted a 308 bolt but didn't want to spend the money since I already own a nice 270 hunting rifle. With the price of the RA I was finally able to get one.

Thanks for the post. I am interested in the Ruger American in 308 and this shows me exactly how nice they shoot.

Keep having fun. :D :D :D

Jimbo, if this copy & paste worked for me, here is how my American in 308 performs. I haven't had a chance to shoot it again since

Oilcan,
Looking good. Those 180 Federal Power Shoks are all ya need for anything in the lower 48. My brother used them in Africa and I used my loads with 180 gr Rem Corelokts. We took Kudu and Gemsbok with no problems.

Saturday I picked up a 30-06 American rifle I honestly did not need another Rifle but your post I read on Friday night pushed me over the edge & I bought it. We'll see.............
I'm sure you will be happy with it but be sure to post here with a range report.

just came back from South Africa and the P.H. I had was saying that Ruger Americans sell for $1200-$1300 there, I was amazed at the prices they have to pay for weapons. Glocks were about the same. FYI Bob
