That's a kick in the teeth to CZ.

Perhaps. The CZ 527 carbine likely appeals to different buyers. It's got a walnut stock and even still comes with nice iron sights. It also costs quite a bit more than the new Ruger.

To be honest I'd rather have one of these in 30-30. I've hunted with both and the x39 doesn't hold a candle to the 30-30 when it comes to killing deer. Actually one in 35 Rem would be even better.

To those of us who already have a Mini 30, this is a no brainer, particularly if one handloads. No chasing that expensive commercial brass all over creation and it uses the same 5 round mags that came with my Mini 30(I use factory 20's in the Mini). While the 7.62 x 39 is no 30-30, with the right loads(123 gr. SST's over CFE BLK) it doesn't miss it by much. Plus import ammo is cheap enough for practice sessions. I requested one this am as soon as Sports South get's some in inventory. Add a 1 x 4 scope and go!! Bob!!

I also discovered that Bushnell makes a 30mm 1x4x24 with a 7.62x39 BDC style reticle that may be the ticket for the Ranch rifle. Midway has them as well as Sports South. I also discovered that Ruger makes 10 rd. magazines, as well as the 5 & 20. Bob! :D

Maybe I missed it but I am surprised that no one has mentioned the fact that Ruger didn't use the Mini 14 5.56/223 mag in the 5.56 ranch rifle and scout rifles. Wonder if you can swap the bottom metal from this rifle in the 5.56 version and use the Mini 14 mags?

Need to know the bore diameter to know if this goes on my shopping list. I have a CZ 527 in 223. Love it. Been kicking around the idea of getting another in 7.62x39. The CZ is just too nice of a gun in such a utilitarian caliber though. As long as Ruger went .311 with the bore this is the ultimate truck gun. The only negative is the longer than needed action.

Yeah, I like sights too. Since they threaded the barrel, they should have added the Mini-30 front sight and flash hider. The rear sight could have been incorporated into the scope base as they did on the 1st and 2nd Anniversary 10-22's. Of course, that would have turned it into an American Scout rifle, which is not a bad idea. BTW, the factory flash hider is available from Midway and I assume Ruger when they are available. Bob!

No iron sights... sad...

Alas, those of us who like iron sights are in an ever shrinking minority. Most of today's gun buying population think you need a 12 power scope to shoot a rifle at 25 yards.

I agree .. A quality affordable bolt action in 30-30 would be sweet .. I have taken 3x more Whitetail with a 30-30 than any other caliber .. inculding my Model 70 270win.. (Death Ray).
A 30-30 in a boltgun has the capability of being a more accurate cartridge....
I do wish I still had my 788 .. in 30-30

I agree, make it with sights !

They come out with an awesome little rifle chambered in a cartridge that's affordable with good close to medium range ballistics and fed from the mini30 detachable mag and everyone complains. Maybe they'll have a belt-fed .50 bmg American Ranch soon.

That would be coooool

Bore .311 not 308 as I just saw on real guns he has a review up with more to come.

My next new rifle. I have a Sandman S waiting for it.

Have to get some reloading dies and components rounded up.

I know they are going to sell a metric ton of these things. But I was really hoping for a ranch rifle in 6.5 Grendel. Kinda disappointed.
