I'd heard that such a model was in development but this is the first I've heard of any being out in the open.
A demo would have a "*" with the serial number usually I thought. A call to Ruger records with the serial number will tell the tale.

Hi I looked for the * but was not there seial #740-193xx I couldent find anything in that serial # range I got to call ruger monday anyway for a letter on my # 10 bearcat

Hmmm. I'm surprised Ruger would let a secret like that get out. They must not know that the RF population are real Ruger hounds, that that showing an example or two of that around could very easily make the rounds at RF.
Yes....is true. Ruger has been working on a 77/357. I suspect it will probably make its appearance at this year's NRA show.
Gramps 51, if you have a chance, I would be curious as to the SN. Send me a PM if you wish.

While a 77/357 is quite appealing, I'd rather see a 77/41. 8) If it has to be .357 caliber, at least make it accept the Max!

Would be a nice little rifle. Just may need to buy one as a companion to my 77/44.

I'd be very interested in one of those as a little brother to my 77/44.

Was it possible a custom job. Reason I ask is I have heard of more than one 77/44 being rebarreled to 357 Baines and davis. 44 necked down to 357. Not uncommon for a custom smith to be incomplete in their caliber stampings. If it was STamped 77/357 on the receiver I would believe this to be Ruger. If that is case now I have something else I cannot afford to buy but will end up buying anyways. Don't see this being a big seller. Now 357 maximum you would have something. Or while I am dreaming make mine a 480.

I have purchased several Ruger factory demo/used/seconds guns in the last couple of years...they do not mark the guns with a "U" or an "*" anymore to my knowledge, they mark the boxes and attach a removable tag to the firearm....sometimes. 77/357...interesting..but what is it for? :?

Cheap, fun, easy to shoot, sport targets, small deer, pigs, any midsize game out to 150 yards. A great companion to a 357 magnum revolver besides a levergun. Comparable to a 30-30. 8) 8)

To make the 357 usfull in a rifle we need some premium bullets. Unfortunately the only good high velocity 357 pistol bullet the nosler partition has been discontinued. There is still hard cast but on deer I want some expansion.

How bout Hornady .357 mag. 140 gr. FTX leverevolution. Del

The FTX seem to have a very light jacket. Don't know how they will perform on game. They are also on the light side. In turn higher velocities. High velocities plus a light jacket could lead to some ugly results on game.

The 158 grain Hornady XTP jacketed flat point (not hollow point) is a good one, I run them to 1800 fps out of my Marlin 1894. A 77/357 sounds delicious although I don't think it would ever replace my trusty 1894.

Thats about what a new 1894 carbine goes for in these parts so it should be price competitive. The octagon barrel cowboy models are alot more.

Wow! I'm surprised it was priced at all.
And if Ruger decides not to bring it to market you may have passed up a rare rifle!

Like the partition only better.

Barnes also makes a solid copper bullet that is very tough, and depending on the action length there are a myriad of .358" rifle bullets that would work very well and are plenty tough enough.

I would really like to see it chambered for .357 Max!

For hunting ammo I would use a 180gr XTP. I don't see anything wrong with them. ...or maybe a Remington soft point or a Cast Performance WFNGC. If you want penetration there are plenty of silhouette bullets. 8) 8)

I'm sorry but I dont agree. Here in Uruguay where JHPs or soft point bullets are prohibited I have used succcesfully .357 cast bullets for hunting deer and hog. And I don´t mean hardcast wich I have also used with success but a softer alloy. I load them over 15,5 grains of H2400 or 16,0 grains of W296 or SP3. With 15,5 of 2400 the chrony reads 1800 f/s.
I use gas check and there is no barrel leading.

These are 3 different alloys fired at soft wet mud and recovered. The one on the left is hard cast. The one in the middle is softer and the one of the right is the softest. They are all the same bullet!

Both hard cast and the alloy in the middle will always punch through deer sized game. The one in the middle drops them like a stone! The alloy on the right will probably get the job done also but I reserve it for smaller game.

Premium bullets? I don't miss 'em.

I'd love to have a 77/357. I have a custom barrelled T/C Contender in 357 Mag. The barrel is made by Bullberry and has a tight match chamber. I have shot groups under M.O.A. with hand loads using VV powder and Hornady FTX bullets. A bolt version should be stronger than the Contender.
