Ruger 77/17 WSM--A hit or Miss.

Has anyone had the Ruger M77/17 WSM with Stainless Barrel ? The rifle carries hefty price for a rimfire.
Before I jump aboard some encouragement would be appreciated.

Miss... interest in the WSM faded faster than the HM2... and support going forward is likely to be poor.

If you need a .17 with more power than the HMR, you should probably look at the .17 Hornet.

It was designed to fill a specific niche, the rimfire only for varmints requirement in many eastern states.
In that role it seems to have developed a steady following, though your point is well taken, they should
bring out a less expensive version of the rifle.

My first Ruger 77/17 WSM was a scattergun, 3" at 75 yards. Ruger said to send it back for repair. They replaced the barrel, bolt, and stock. They shipped it back with a test target shot at 50 yards with 20 gr. Winchester ammo. I shot it a couple times and it was better than when I sent it back. Fast forward to this spring, when it was finally warm and no wind, I shot it again. It would still not group consistently. I may get a couple shots close, then a flyer. I called Ruger again and sent it back again. This time, I asked to talk to the gunsmith after they shot the gun. The gunsmith called me and said they could not get the rifle to group. He said they were going to put another barrel on the gun. I said, you just got done putting a new barrel, stock, and bolt on the rifle. Long story short, I asked for brand new rifle. The gunsmith spoke with customer service and they agreed to build me a new gun in the gunsmith shop, not the assembly line. This gun shoots better, around an inch at 100 yards and 1.5" at 150 yards (with absolutely no wind). I think this is as good as it gets for this rifle and round. Ruger said their accuracy standard for this gun is 0.75" at 50 yards. I also have a Ruger and CZ 17 Hornet that shoot less than 1 MOA consistently.
