What is the best year for the .44 Carbine.
Also what serial #'s were used for the early Ruger Deerstalkers?
Does any have an early 44 Carbine for sale?
Thanks Dave

There were two versions of the 44 Carbine made. I believe the later guns were better because of the changes they made. The Deerfield is not the same as the 44 Carbines and came much later. I can't help with the serial #s more than what is on the Ruger site.

Dunno which is "given up" to be the best, but mine is a 102- series, made about 1975 if I'm readin the numbers correctly. It seems well-made, functions great, and, in limited testing, has proven itself capable of 3" 3-shot groups from sandbags at 70 yards. Mine is the RS model (receiver-mounted peep sight installed at the factory) and needed only a slightly taller front sight to make it at least as accurate as my peep-mounted Marlin pistol-caliber rifles out to the yardage mentioned.

The highest known Deerstalker marked .44 Carbine is #3861, produced sometime in 1962.
