Ruger 22/45 for SR9 practice

Does anyone have any experience with both the Ruger 22/45 and the Ruger SR9? I was wondering if it made any sense to supplement my SR9 practice with a 22/45, from a cheaper and more available ammo standpoint. I am also wondering how a comparably sized 22/45 would work in an SR9 holster for practice.

Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to get a 22/45.

Hi, I have the 22/45 (4.5" barrel) for my wife and the SR9. They are not too comparable for practice. The 22/45 has a sweet, light trigger compared to the SR9, is even thinner than the SR9, it has virtually no recoil. I love the SR9 (about 1,400 rounds without a single failure and no peening that some have seen), and is accurate for me. There is a major difference when you shoot them side by side. The 22/45 also has a different profile and most holsters would not be compatable.

I really like shooting the 22/45. It is VERY accurate and costs next to nothing to shoot. My wife loves it. I would get it!

I have the 22/45 and the SR9C. The 22/45 is, indeed, extremely accurate and a lot of fun. I agree with most of the previous comments but I think it is reasonably close enough to the SR9 to be of value for practice. I say this because unless you own a 1911 with a .22 conversion you will never closely duplicate the ergonomics of your carry gun with a .22. The radius at the top of the grip where it meets the webbing of your palm is very close and the grip angle appears the same. Therefore, it points the same. At least for me it does. If you have the hankerin' for the 22/45 I'd say it would be a great asset for training and fun. There is nothing like a .22 for learning good shooting habits and mechanics. Good luck.

Thanks to you both. I may just have to add another Ruger. I like my commemorative single 6 convertable, but now that I'm into pistols, it may be time for the 22/45
