I sold my old Ruger and bought a SS 1240 model. I noticed it had a blue painted aluminum receiver, and SS barrel. Not a problem it goes with my Blue scope and rings. I took it to the range and ran 200 rounds through it and it was spot on. At 25 yds I can drill a group that a quarter will cover and that is only because of me not the gun. I took it home and disassembled it and found that the buffer pin was a bit hard to remove. I had to use a punch and hammer to tap it out. I think that it will ease up with time. But the thing is the mag release/bolt stop pin just fell out. I had to be careful and hold it to reassemble it. Has anyone had any problem with this? Is there a fix that I can take care of myself? A roll pin maybe?

I've had the same problem on my 10/22 & have wiped a small dab of thick militec grease in the holes from both sides & now the pin doesn't fall out at all..
If you did use a roll pin you'd have to make sure it doesn't bind the magazine catch lever on the inside of the hole, if it did you could open the hole up slightly..
I just had my 10/22 apart last night after I sent several hundred 4th of July rounds down range..
Also the buffer pin will loosen up every time you remove it..
You could just buy a polymer buffer or make yourself one as I have, I bought a couple of feet of 1/4" viton fuel hose from the hardware store & then cut a piece of 1/8" stainless drill rod to go inside of it & I have a custom buffer that's tough & durable, quiet & really holds up, I haven't ruined one yet but keep a few extra in my range bag just in case..
Enjoy Ed..

I field stripped mine for the first time yesterday. I experienced the same thing as edteach did. I had to tap out the buffer pin and the two fire control housing pins with a non marring pin punch.

My mag release pin just fell out. Then the mag release disengaged, and the spring loaded plunger came out. No problems. Just like a puzzle, I just looked at the parts and figured out how they all go back together.
