Ruger #1 second shot?

Hi fellas..I have a ruger #1 in .375 H&H and love it! :D ..I don't think I need a second shot, but you never know :roll: ...I'm thinking of a butt cuff, or wrist cuff.or having a 3 shot band stiched on my left shoulder for a qwick follow up shot if need be..any info would be great..Thanks..BB :)

You can hold extra rounds in one of your hands and with a small amount of practice get off a second or third shot IF NECESSARY..

I use the elastic butt cuff as well, but when hunting I always have one chambered and have two more in my non trigger hand.

We did some experiments a few years back and I can get off three rounds in the time my friend could get off four with a M77.

One thing the single shot did for me was make me take my time to sight correctly. I have never shot any animal twice with my No. 1. Every kill was one shot.

I found this link on youtube for rapid fire with a Ruger No.1. In this case, the rifle is chambered in 375 Ruger and the shooter keeps two follow up rounds in between the fingers of this left hand. Pretty fast.

I use a 2-round wrist cuff with my No.1, Encores and TC Contenders. Had an adjustable version made by a local tack shop owner to accommodate for bare skin or various layers of clothing worn.

I use a butt cuff but have never had to pull a cartridge for a second shot. The single shot just makes you a better hunter. I'm no sniper but one shot, one kill has been my only experience with the No. 1.

I usually keep my spares in a belt slide. Reloading from a belt slide is a little cumbersome with a jacket on(not so slow, but can be awkward). If I am wearing a jacket I put one cartridge in my right jacket pocket. Plenty fast for a followup shot.

I don't favor shell holders on the stock. They alter the weight of the rifle and in some cases alter my cheek weld.

I think an extra or two in the hand is ok.

I have to also think, if I get knocked down, where do I want some ammo to be if I have the opportunity to respond..........seems like.... by the rifle or on me makes some sense. One of the basic attributes of a magazine rifle(sometimes) in my own opinion.

Nothing against some ammo on the stock or in the belt/pocket though if using a no.1 for dangerous game, just won't be me.............. :D

Wrapping something around the wood is alright, just don't leave it on there too long if it gets wet. Hold the second round in your teeth and spit it into the chamber if you need a second shot. :mrgreen:

I use a belt slide, located in the front (where my blue jean's button is). When you eject the spent round your hand is already headed in that direction (more are less). You just grab a live round while you're down there. I wear the belt slide on a belt by itself or with my pistol holster and/or knife and wear it on top of my top layer while hunting. I usually put the belt on and then spin it around where the buckle is toward the back and the belt slide is in the front. I think my slide will hold about 10 rounds but I usually just put 5 or 6 in the middle loops. If I put 10 in, the ones on the ends tend to get knocked out and lost over time.

I bought my first deer rifle (NO 1 AB 30-06) when I was 15 years old. The belt slide is all I've ever used with it.
