RSI trigger question

Thrilled to own my tang safety .308 RSI International. Great handling rifle, perfect for the stalking I do where snap shooting is common.
I'm not thrilled with the trigger. It's clunky, jolts, and just doesn't feel smooth.
My gun was one of the last made, 1993.
I've researched the trigger subject here, but have not seen direct advice I can relay to the gun smith.
What advice do you have on the RSI trigger? Re-work, or replace?

My tang safety RSI trigger is very nice. I had the trigger polished and a lighter spring installed back in the 1980's. I now just keep it clean for years of use. This too, is my favorite for stalking/still hunting. A good gunsmith should be able to remedy your problems.

OK, thanks PA. A lighter spring may be the solution. When I pull the trigger, there's a loud Ka-chunk! accompanied by a hard jolt as the firing pin hits. That does sound like an unnecessarily heavy spring. There must be two dozen rifles in my collection, and none of them do that. My regular hunting rifle is a Remington 700 BDL 30-06, open sights, and it's flawless and accurate. Clean trigger. That's what I want in my Ruger RSI 308.

Update: Due to legal liability concerns, our best local gunship won't modify the original M77 trigger, as PA suggested above. Instead, a new Timney trigger assembly will be installed and we will hopefully call it a success. I'll report back when I get my gun.

I have a Timney in my 1984 Tang Safety M77 RSI, .243. Huge improvement,worthwhile investment.
