Just put in the safe a NIB 7mm-08 in RSI; 77-16956. The RENE Reference indicates a serial number range 77-53497 to 77-55394. Not being in the range is not too big a deal, but the very low number interest me. It is just a "TAD" lower than the low number in the reference range.Any thoughts as to why the very large numbering difference? That receiver must have slipped between the cracks for quite a while.

From Ruger, this gun was shipped August 1983 as a RSI in 7mm 08, suggesting to me that this receiver was rattling around in the bottom of the bin for a number of months, probably close to a year before getting snapped up. The 77-53XXX appear to have been in the mid to late 83 timeframe from the history page.

Anyway, now I have the twin sister to the 7X57 RSI I picked up in the 80's. Been looking for a long time.

The serial # ranges in the RENE are based on what Chad has observed and had reported to him by owners/observers. Yours is either indicative of an earlier receiver getting used in the run(as you surmise) or is the result of a earlier production, either a run or sample. Shipping dates is the only other bit of info that can help sort this puzzle.

I roger, understand the reference is based upon observations. I have called, but have not yet got the ship date. Will add to post when I get. Maybe tomorrow. Just an interesting gap in numbers, hope it has an interesting story.

Hey Randy, like minds. This is the rifle I think I mentioned in Boise at the show. I am tickled with it. I'll give you a call next time in Boise, may be we can do lunch. Also picked up a couple hollowbolts. This maddness, does it ever stop?? I hope not !!
