Howdy yall-
I just picked up my Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmore today
and am eager to make a few changes, mostly to cut weight.
Firstly, I want to change out the stock. The Ruger stock does not thrill me... I have an extra Magpul CTR collecting dust, which is very tempting because it is lightweight and collapsible. Has anyone here used a Magpul CTR on the RPR (or on a similar precision rifle)? I installed it earlier this evening, and it seems like it will work fine, but it will definitely need a cheek riser. I found this one, which comes in three different heights:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00500XILI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_14&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
The stock that comes on the RPR is just over 26oz including the buffer tube.
The Magpul CTR is 9.3oz (for whatever reason I have the commercial version..) and the buffer tube is about 4.5oz, so that's about 13.8oz. This does not account for the cheek riser, which is probably about 2-3oz, so basically I could cut about 10oz with the whole stock setup. Not bad. The only thing I'll be missing out on is a monopod rail, big whoop.
Next is the grip. The Ruger grip weighs 2.8oz. Strike Industries makes a very good grip that weighs 2oz and costs about $19, so that's another .8oz gone. Not bad.
Then there's the handguard... This is where I would greatly appreciate suggestions. I know of a couple companies that make a handguard specifically for the RPR, but they all appear to be overkill. The only purpose for the "handguard" on this rifle seems to be as an attachment point for a bipod, so I'm looking for the most minimal, lightweight option out there that satisfies this need. Also, FDE would be nice. Thoughts?
Thanks
