Just watched Dark Command with the Duke and Roy Rogers. I can't believe Ol Roy actually shot and killed someone. My question is, did he kill anyone else in any of his movies? I've googled it and can't find anything. Thanks.

Roy was a master at shooting the bad guy's gun out of his hand.

Even as a kid I snickered at that.

Yup..... even worse, on his old TV show, it was the wild west with everybody on horseback - except for the guy with the jeep. Really ???

Pat Brady's "Nellybelle" Jeep was a special character on the old RR show. The show was set in "modern" times, with only Roy, Dale, and a few others on horseback. Couldn't be a RR show without Trigger and Buttermilk, after all.

Saw the entire "show" live at the Iowa State Fair in about 1956 or so. Had the entire major stars and horses, and of course, Pat and Nellybelle. Did a lotta singing and shooting and good clean fun. Never happen again.

Even better was the fact that he would hit the gun, not the bad guy's hand. I don't remember seeing any bloody hands.

I met Roy in the early '60s when he came to Kotzebue, AK for a scheduled polar bear hunt. He insisted on walking around in the village with cowboy boots in February. His backside took a lot of punishment until someone rigged his boots with crampons. The weather was bad so the hunt never happened but his film crew made several shots of him "flying" a Supercub. They set the tail up on a Blazo box with the engine idling and had Roy in the front seat pretending to fly. There was a guy at one wing tip to wiggle the airplane a bit to make it look like it was flying in the close ups. He wasn't a tea totaller while he was there either. Dropped a decent amount of cash playing poker with a couple of locals too. They really cheated Roy out of over a thousand dollars, which was a nice amount of moola back then.

Brodrick Crawford on Highway Patrol was the real pro. 50+ yards with a 2".
Living in SoCal in the 50s all the cowboy stars would come visit at school. A little riding, roping and shooting. It was great.

And that was without even looking at the sights, while waddling towards cover in a roadside ditch!

I think he killed a guy who spelled his name with a "d" in it...
Now, I don’t care who you are but THAT is funny :!:

Being a RR fan and a "Roger" I get the "D" thing.

But I never realized he never shot anyone - Nice Guy I guess.
