I don't know how many sci-fi fans there are among our members, but I think most would enjoy Heinlein's novels, especially The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress. This is the source of TANSTAAFL: "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch." He also wrote "An armed society is a polite society."

Heinlein is a top notch writer. I have a few of his books. He makes some interesting observations.

Ooops
Correction WAS a top notch writer. I seriously doubt he's doing much writing where he is.

I have a vague recollection of reading it about 20 years ago. I think I enjoyed it, but evidently not enough to remember anything about it.

I looked it up on Wiki, and not a single word of the summary sounded familiar. The back burner of my brain eventually came up with the book I was thinking of, Podkayne of Mars, another Heinlein book entirely. Which I also don't remember too much about, but that was definitely the one.

The Number of the Beast is a weirdly interesting book of his. Friday is fun and Starship Troopers is way better than the CGI abortion Hollywood made from the story including two very lousy sequels.
