I am thinking of buying a 45LC conversion cylinder for my Ruger Old Army. I have read that they are to be limited to "cowboy" loads and use hollow base SWC bullets.
Would appreciate if anybody can comment on doing this.
What should I check besides cylinder gap?

Yep, you are limited to Cowboy level loads but a 250 grain lead bullet at 850 is nothing to sneeze at. Just watch your pressure level when you are reloading.

Hodgdon's website will have any number of loads applicable to that level of power. www.hodgdon.com

Also note that there are both 45 Colt and 45 acp cylinders availble. I don't load "cowboy" level 45 Colt loads so for me I am thinking about getting a 45 acp cylinder.

Just not worth the risk to me that I drop one of my wrist cracker loads into a ROA by accident (not that I have anything that is not Ruger Only Strength loaded).
