This is an old thread, but kind of interesting, because there's a current thread with discussion about using revolver cartridges (specifically the .357 Magnum) in auto pistols:

Taurus makes an interesting little .380 5-shot snubbie. I've handled one at a gun show, and it is a very concealable little revolver, with frame and cylinder just long enough for the .380 cartridge.

The autoloader cartridges are compact in comparison to the rimmed revolver cartridges

Granted the autoloader cartridges tend to run at higher pressure, but the modern steels are fit for the challenge

I have a Ruger Single Six that's been built to run the 10mm auto cartridge

Handloads are getting fantastic performance, similar to some 41 magnum loads, and very accurate but in a very compact package
