Would Y'all please type quietly;  I got my my first set of hearing aids this afternoon. I never knew that a zipper on a pair of jeans was so noisy (we wont mention the OTHER restroom sounds that were REALLY LOUD now   ) But I did note that pulling up panties had a noise of its own.
Okay, so I NEED to adjust the volume a bit and get use to hearing things I COULDN'T hear in the past.
Nice little units behind the ears, The VA will be sending me free replacement batteries and other supplies as needed.
Don't even notice the units they are so small and light weight.

Wow that's nice I can't even hear whether or not I'm hitting the toilet when I take a leak.

Pamela, I am a bit surprised that panties make noise when pulled up. Granted, I have never pulled any of them up but I have pulled more than a few in the other direction and didn't notice any sound. Maybe I just was preoccupied. :)

I WAS TOO !!!!
I think it's the elastic sliding against the skin.

How about the first time on the freeway, the movies  or a crowd of people.
The nice part :) is you can turn them off. Carry extra batteries until you can judge how long they last. Enjoy the NEW world. :D

Go in a restaurant when they are rattling dishes. That REALLY lets one know what NOISE is. When I first got mine I noticed that the damn crickets also are much noisier than they used to be. :D

Did you get the remote control unit with the blue tooth built in? That makes it a lot easier to turn them up and down.

I take them out when the Grandkids come. I can hear them JUST FINE without them.

BTW, I now hear them little old man farts when I walk.
Guess that wasn't my little secret after all.

Pam, glad and happy for you, as I said in your previous post, I have been wearing them for some 30+ years and they sure change your life for the better.

I wish my mother in law would wear hers. Too vain appears to be the issue.
I'm sure everyone around you will appreciate your new hearing ability as well as you.

Pam, since you live in Florida, watch out to make sure you put them in a drier with a dri-air brick at night. Even sweat on the devices can shorten their life immensely. I have had to replace several behind the ear aids due to sweet in the summer and/or wet from rain. Finally I just got a little set of, for want of a better word, sweat bands that slip over the units when I wear them in the summer. If the VA has not talked to you about these yet, I would call them right away.

I'm getting use to them now; First night I went into the kitchen to start dinner and I kept hearing this Clicking sound; Wondered "What in the underworld of Satan is that making the noise!!! "
Turns out it was the kitchen wall clock ticking off the seconds !!
Looked this set up on the internet ; Would you believe $3000+ each** ? I'm still doing research on them on the internet, the literature that came with them aint real helpful. I DO know that they were able to set the ranges on them using a computer. I'm hoping I can get an AP on my Android Phone to control them.

**Starkey Labs Inc, Eden Prairie, MN--Model: Z Series RIC model 312.

Sat through a sales pitch on high end ballistic hearing protection last week while at Front Sight.... seems the company that makes these also makes hearing aids.... the guy implied that with a prescription you could get their hearing protection ones for about half of what they sell the regular ones for and they were actually better.

Yeah, but they aren't a "medical device" so they can't gouge the insurance companies. The technology is the same, yet they make a profit at half the price..... go figure.

If you find that please share. Mine need adjustment and it takes six weeks to get an appointment.

And yeah, that old fart in church was always there, I just didn't hear it.

The Audiology Dept of Haley VA Hospital has some kind of walk in clinic ( Office hours worse than the DMV) where they handle adjustments, etc. I don't have the details on it (thought it was in my paperwork).
I'm liking my little devices more and more every day.
You ARE right about those old Farts; same thing with those little lady like escapes !! NO WONDER no one would believe me when I blamed it on the dog !!

I got mine when I was on my wife's insurance. Free for gov't workers & spouses. $5000 for the pair ( at least that's what the insurance paid) and I have to get my own batteries. They don't last but maybe a week or so, I keep spares in my car, my wife' s car and my dresser drawer, plus other places I can't half remember.
There are more places that I put them back into the " clamshell " because the noises in the area are so loud that they are painful, but they sure are wonderful when driving or fishing or just relaxing on the back deck. I hadn't heard crickets in 20 years....

Got a "SURPRISE" today; A couple of hours after putting on my hearing aids, One spouts "Battery Low Install New Battery"; Son-of-a-GUN !!!    I wondered how I was going to know it was time to replace the batteries !!
Opened the pack up pulled out two new batteries and popped them into the units.
Just got a box of 120 batteries for the units from the VA on Saturday.
SO, 3 to 4 days of battery life (I think I'll wait util the units go dead next time); I'll time how long these new batteries last and then know when to order refills. Guess that'll go on my prescription reminder list.

My Dad had hearing issues from his teens. I think I was about 15 when he got his first hearing aid.......us kids (all six of us)
HATED it..........for all the years prior, we were able to run and yell and make all kinds of noise because Dad had the TV turned way up. Once those blasted electronic ears showed up all we heard was "PATSY, tell them kids to hold the noise down!".
Honestly, I really am glad they got ya set up. Enjoy listening to all the beautiful noise.... :D

When I first got hearing aids a bit over four years ago the first thing I noticed was how 'tinny' things sounded. After a short while it began to sound okay. It was just that the aids were allowing me to hear some higher pitched sounds I'd been missing for many years.
For those who don't have VA it's hard to beat Costco for hearing aids. My new behind the ear pair that links to my iPhone so that I can adjust the volume, program or some of the frequency response cost $1800 for the pair. Hard to beat price. Costco has very good prices on batteries as well. My Blue Cross pays up to $2500 every three years.

There's no better felling than that.

I was told to let the batteries sit for about two minutes before you install them.Something about letting them " breathe " or some such. At least that's what the audiologist said.

It depends on the battery. There are some that use air to activate, and provide oxygen to produce electricity.

The Zinc Air batteries need to be exposed to the air to get operating. I open mine and let them sit for about 5 minutes be fore I put them in .
