We are pretty well shut down now in Memphis. We had 4" of snowfall than an additional 4 3/4" on top of that. Side streets are covered in snow but traction is good but there are icy spots and the city and county officials have ad vised folks to stay at home. We have not had temperatures above freezing since Feb.10th.

In addition to snow and ice, our water pressure is at an all-time low. We have artesian water in Memphis, and some of the pumping stations have had frozen pumps. In addition there have been several water mains burst. Reduced pressure presents the possibility of ground water seeping into the water lines. We are under an advisory to boil our water for drinking, cooking, brushing out teeth, etc. Also to rinse dished washed in tap water in water treated with bleach.

The bright side is that we had retained our power and heat. And temperatures will be warming up this week end.

I have been in prayer for the folks of the Ft. Worth, Texas area as they have been hit especially hard. We talked to our daughter in Texas, near Bastrop, and they are doing pretty well. They've had momentary outages but are still O.K.

And, for the first time since I can remember, the Post Office is closed. No mail outgoing nor delivered!

Very trying times. Kansas has been having earthquakes. I just saw on YouTube a 3 point quake in December. Now , today, 4 point on OK KS line. Anyone in Kansas feel it today?

I remember back in I believe it was 08 we down here got hit with a Winter Huricane... Ice storm and high winds... big limbs falling out of the sky.... my mother called that afternoon and I quoted from a Japanese sci-fi movie:

"things are so bad, they've never been this bad before"

We were pretty much shut down all week, too. We got about 2-3" of ice first, temps in the low teens to single digits, then 6" of snow on top of that. My workplace did reopen today, late (10 am) but there were only about 6-8 of us there where normally it would be 10x that many. Main streets are clear due to being salted but all the secondary roads are still solid ice. Temps tonight in the upper teens again, so it's not really over yet. Our power has stayed on the duration of this, at least.

A toasty 28* here in north MO yesterday for a short while. I had both big John Deeres running after noon. One clearing snow from the upper driveway which had been drifted in for 10 days and the other loading 2 trailer loads of hay for a local buyer who had been unable to exit his driveway for a week because the hwy dept pushed a huge windrow of snow across the drive and then it froze in place during the below zero period. He was finally able to get his skidloader running and dislodged the 4' high ice chunk allowing him to get out.
What we have not had is a power outage accompanying the cold.
