Reloading for .327 federal

Found a load for the .327 federal that looks interesting. However, the recipe calls for Federal 200 primers. I don't have any. But, I do have CCI, Winchester and Remington small pistol primers. I also have CCI small rifle primers. Are any of these a suitable replacement for the 200 Federals? Any tips would be sincerely appreciated.

Federal 200 are magnum primers... equivalent to increasing your powder charge by less than 1 grain.

You can use non-magnum primers, and work up to the load you like, as normal.

Google gunblast and 327 Fed. Jeff Quinn used 550 CCI primers. Then he seated the bullet to the first grease ring on the bullet. He also used a bullet that a friend of his made. It was 118 grains.

If you don't have any small magnum pistol primers for most loads you can substitute a regular primer. The pressure might be a little less. The only exceptions would be full charges of very slow powder, like H-110.

Beware the Remington #1 1/2 primers, SP, they are really soft and will perforate often with upper range 327 loads. I cast Lyman 311316, 115 gr. GC and load over 2400 and #9. Winchester and CCI standard primers work very well but the Remingtons pierce too often. I'm loading in the 90 percentile range, not hot rodding, three different revolvers, same results in all three.

If I was loading toward the upper end of the 327 Federal I'd use small rifle primers as Speer suggests.

For low and medium charges of powder standard small pistol primers would be fine.
