Maybe this belongs under another heading, but then...........

Tennessee has provision for a lifetime carry permit in addition to the fregular eight year renewable one. Recently overheard a gent make this remark:

"Lifetime permit? I'm ninety three years old. For me, eight years IS a lifetime permit!"

LA is the same except it is 5 years or lifetime. You still have to take the recertification every 5 years even with a lifetime permit including passing the firearms live range fire.
The difference is waiting for the paperwork to clear. If you are traffic stopped, or interacting with a PO you must declare you are armed.
If you are arrested your carry permit is forfeit until you are cleared of charged. A felon can't possess, conceal or be in the presence of a firearm

Yes, Sir, it is. But carry permits are often necessary when travelling to other states for reciprocity if required.

This is exactly why I renew mine here in Ohio. We can conceal carry in Ohio now without a permit. Since my wife and I travel on vacation yearly the reciprocity factor be comes and issue.
