Refinished H & R .44 Magnum

I took my H & R Handi-Rifle .44 Magnum and decided to give it a re-do to change that awful black on black.

I made the pattern myself by cutting out stencils from posterboard and then just holding them in one hand and spraying with the other. I can honestly say if more people find how durable that Krylon camo paint is, Duracoat prices might come down. I used maybe a half a can of the khaki, hardly any green, and a little black and all three cost me $12 total. I only had to buy the khaki since I bought a can of green and black for use on a longbow I redid. This is the same paint I used on my jeep and in the rain, every day driving has held up really well. I offered to paint my wife's care but she declined.

Hey there, nice camo!! Did you use the Krylon Fusion paint, or just plain old spray paint? How did you prep the surface? Did you use primer? I'm contemplating a camo job on the stock of my Weatherby Vanguard.

No primer was necessary. I just degreased the metal by wiping off any oil. The H & R's are nice to do because their bluing isn't polished. The Krylon was their camouflage line (the cans look like woodlawn camo) nd they come in four colors. Green drab, black, khaki, and brown.

For patterns and masks, when doing camo, I've had good luck using old window screen (stoopid hound!). Take your screen, and tape positive or negative images on it. The images can be made of tape, or paper, and you can hold the screen over the object to be painted, shoot it, and lift it. No adhesive fuss or mess from tapes, and you can work different effects. If you want a softer edge (feathered), space the mask from the object, the further the space, the softer the edge.
