I've got a late '80's 12ga fixed choke gun that I'd like to get modded to screw-ins. Any one out there have it done? Does the RL have a chrome bore?

Can you point me to a competant Smith and give me an idea what to expect to pay?

The best place to use is Briley, they can even set both barrels point of impact to your specs.

Whatever you do DO NOT send anything to Carlson choke tubes. They will thread and their prices are great. But their "gunsmith" who is also the owner is first class fool. Only thing worse than his "gunsmithing" is his people skills. Briley is great but expensive. I have numerous good thing about this guy and nothing bad. His prices are great. No website but the link will give his contact info and a price list. The prices have probable gone up a bit but are not even in the same zip code as briley's prices.

I have a 20 ga Red Label I had Briley chokes put into about 1986 or so. Great work. Can't remember the $$$.

I also recommend Mike Orlen, but he threads for Rem Chokes which I don't care for. I'd rather be able to use the factory tubes which are Briley.

I haven't asked Mike if he'll thread for Ruger chokes or not. I suppose its worth asking.

I'm not sure, but if it's bored skeet and skeet it may make it a little more difficult.

Hi,

I've heard quite a number of recommendations for Mike Orlen's work. They often include a caveat that he's usually got enough work to do to keep him more than busy w/o talking on the phone or answering e-mails quickly, so he can be a bit hard to get a hold of. Patience is recommended when contacting Mike.

Our shop did some choke installations now and then "back when"--usually field guns--but generally sent competition and other "high dollar" jobs to Briley. Customers requested his chokes most often, and his tubes almost exclusively. As already mentioned, you'll pay for the quality but we never had a complaint.
