Finally got a 20 gauge Ruger Red Label after all these years. I have wanted one ever since I saw the first one at a gun store back in my teens. It was the first O/U that I could close my eyes and mount the gun and it would be lined up perfectly. It is the old style fixed chokes in modified and improved cylinder. Even included the original receipt

I ran the serial number through the Ruger site and it came up with 2018 as the shipping date? Any better source for a correct date?

You could request a Ruger letter or a polite call to Ruger Customer Service pointing out that the gun was purchased in 1989 so why does the serial number look-up suggest 2018? It is possible that the gun went back to Ruger for some reason.

Village Gun is still located in Whitefield, NH…great local gun shop…

Sweet Shotgun…congratulations.

Nice gun and that serial number was made in the summer?? of 1981....been a while since I looked at any of the serial numbers of all the Red Labels I used to have as well as display,,,,all these years later, I only kept two of them both belonged to the plant manager Rob Dearden, both 2 digit guns one 20 ga and one 12 ga..............and I had twice as many as the ones I displayed, plus Engraved models, and Woodsides.... ;)

Rugerguy 's info is spot on,
I have the same gun 9 numbers away from yours, same chokes, my records showing 7/81 purchase I paid the exact same price. Bought a case/10bxs of Winchester AA $45

Well done ! Was giving that a hard look! I felt just as lucky when I found a 12 gauge red label for sale on the forum! Might be a blessing having the fixed chokes! I'm up over 200 bucks on chokes on the Briley website! Lol
