I don't own one yet but have been on the lookout for one at a good price. I own several other Redhawks though, and I would not hunt with a handgun with a 4" barrel. It is illegal around here to do so, but mostly, it's just putting yourself at a disadvantage for a difficult shot (short sight radius, lower velocity, etc.). I also don't see what having the ability to shoot .45 ACP offers you in a hunting situation.
I understand there was a run several years ago of Redhawk Hunters (with the scope ring cutouts) in .45 Colt, and think that they would better fulfill your hunting needs.

Also, since it is close range for you, a 255gr WFN bullet out of 45acp brass at 900fps is pretty good deer medicine, too. Bullet like the Lee 90358, works great in 45acp.

I have one. It's a great gun, shoots almost every .45 Colt load I have tried great. .45 ACP will shoot almost as accuratly with selected loads. Some ACP loads don't do so well. That was the way I expected it to do. I would buy it again. Great gun.

I really like mine. For a non-handloader, the .45 ACP option is great for less expensive and easier to find range ammo. for outdoors carry I currently stoke it with some warmer buffalo Bore Keith-style ammo. It is currently not considered my deer hunting gun, as a long-slide 10mm Nighthawk serves that role.
It has one rather worrisome drawback, in my opinion. I have a larger hand, and neither Ruger nor any other manufacturer I know of offers a hand-filling rubber grip. The only grip enhancement I have found so far is a Tyler T-grip, which helps significantly but a good set of grips similar to the rubber grips on a standard Redhawk would be helpful. It has me at least pondering a trade for a .45 Colt with standard grips.

A bigger hand-filling grip pretty much cancels out the more compact round butt, one of the features I like about the model.
It does suffer (or cause suffering) with heavy .45 Colt loads, but it works fine for standard stuff in the vicinity of 250 at 850-950 FPS, and none of the ACP loads I tried were anything more than pussycats in that hefty gun.
The T-Grip is a good solution for most shooting with less-than-"magnum" stuff.
Otherwise, if the model sells well enough & long enough, I'd imagine somebody'll produce larger grips for it.

I have one and have had no problems with it. I have only shot 6 rounds of 45 acp through it though. Really just to see if it would shoot them OK. I usually just shoot my handloads in 45 Colt which is what I bought it for. The LGS had this model only sitting on the shelf for 2 months so I just bought it.
There have been several people complaining on other forums about them binding with 45 acp and the cylinder not turning. Mine works great.
I really like the round butt with my smaller hands.

I just picked mine up this afternoon. Easily measures 5-15/16" from the firing pin to the muzzle. We need 5-1/2" to be legal to hunt here in WI.
Not that you couldn't take a whitetail with a .45ACP, I just feel the .45 LC with a good hefty load would do much better.
Back in the 80's I would load 22.5 gr of W296 under a 240 grain JHP Sierra, this was my pet load and not the max listed in the "RUGER AND CONTENDER ONLY" section.
