Red dot? On MkIV.

I just bought a MKIV .22/45 with a rail. I’m looking for recommendations on what to put on the rail. I’m totally ignorant about these modern sights. Your input is very much appreciated.

Those UTG (Leapers) OP3 Red Dot's are an excellent entry level sight for the money. I have a couple, and they can be had for around $100 if you shop around.

I put a simple red dot on my standard MK-IV 22/45, the Red dot is from Dagger Defense. a great sight at a very inexpensive cost. I use it for bullseye competition and I do pretty good considering.

That said, there are MANY decent budget dot optics available. The P95 on my belt right now carries an ADE that has not required re-zero or battery replacement since initially installed 2 years ago.

With that rail I used a small scope, another one I replaced rear sight with reddot mount, another a lobos low pro mount in place of the rail and + 2 on FF 3

I have a plain Jane MK111 22/45 with a VERY modest Weaver red dot.....and a hopped up MKIV 22/45 with a modest Bushnell red dot......I'm not going down range, using for self defense or serious competitions....just fun plinking and speed shooting steel plates so why break the bank?

The Weaver ($49.99 @ Wally World) has worked flawlessly for years......and the Bushnell ($100 Amazon) has been just fine.

I’ve had good service from an UltraDot 25, since 1991. Original purchase price was about $160. It’s been a good purchase!

I also have a Burris FastFire III. Also been a good purchase.

I find it easier to “find” the dot, in a tube-style dot sight, like the Utradot.

With my Burris FastFire III, I sometimes have to “search” for my dot. Nearly every time I’m “searching” for it, I need to point my muzzle down a little, to find the dot.

I actually prefer a direct mount rather than mounting on the 'rail'. Keeps the optic lower and closer to the bore. I've fabri-cobbled a couple holsters to accommodate these dot optic equipped pistols for field use.

I chuckled at Uncle Howie saying he often had to hunt for the dot.
I see this often in USPSA competition.
It can be traced to how often a person’s grip slightly changed.
But it can also be due to how high the optic sits above the gun.
Watching a shooter hunt for the dot while the clock is ticking is usually due to the grip.
But if you study a person who is using a dot or open sights and even a scope, you can look at the position of the hands and see a good alignment when they are aligned.
Under the clock, often times people tend to point the muzzle upwards a little bit more.
A dot can assist in teaching a proper grip alignment because of the instant feedback.

I have found I'm quicker with a dot on a carbine. But on a pistol I'm quicker with iron sights. But on every pistol I have they have tall suppressor sights. On 1911s I have Bomars with a very narrow tall front sight. The key to irons is to be able to see around the sides of the front sight. But I have also shot so much unless I'm shooting at a distance I'm never aware of the sights. The next sights I'm going to try will be U shaped rear sight. They seem very quick in handling a gun but I haven't shot with one yet. Good thing about irons they're always on.

Been playing around with this for a couple of weeks now and couldn’t be happier. Dot is a Vortex Defender CCW with a 3 moa dot. I prefer a 2 moa dot but not enough of a difference with it to really matter. If I want more precision I will just put a scope on it.

I have a very inexpensive TruGlow on my MKIII that I use in competition. I bought it many years ago before red dots were so prominent. It was inexpensive but has been 100% dependable and accurate and has multiple reticles and both green and red.

I also have two Romeo 5s on a carbine and a 10/22. Great sites if you like that style.

I just recently purchased a Holosun 507 Comp and absolutely love it. Have it on a Smith model 627. Nice big window and lots of options for sight picture.

MOA is important if you plan to shoot outside in the sun. I notice as my eyes get older, I use more of the options available especially in competition.

The Bushnell RXS100 is another excellent option that won't break the bank. I have one on a Henry .22 rifle that's been 100% completely reliable.

Another vote for the Burris Fast Fire I’ve got one on a 22/45 Lite.

Used it today in fact. Great red dot and stays on zero very well.
