Red Dot Advice

I considering a red dot sight for my MK II slabside. Anyone have any hands on experience (good or bad) with any of the following models?

TRUGLO Reflex Red Dot Sight Red and Green 4-Pattern Reticle (15 MOA Peep, Crosshair, 3 MOA Circle Dot, 5 MOA Dot) with Integral Weaver-Style Base

If you are referring to BSA's #PMRGS, I have one on my MKIII. Overall, I like it. Of the four reticles, I only use the dot and the crosshair. The option to use either red or green illumination is also handy. The sight is well-made for its price. My one criticism is that the differences between intensity-levels is barely discernible. Good luck with your research and purchase and please post your choice and results when you can.

Was given a BSA dot a few years ago. Never used it so it sat on the shelf. Finally decided I'd try it on the Charger just to see. Took it put and the whole thing was now covered in a sticky tar-like substance. the finish turned to this messy stuff. Contacted BSA and they offered to refinish it (on my dime) if I sent it to them (on my dime). the refinish would cost more than a brand new one. :shock: Now I didn't expect Burris quality but I would expect the coating to NOT turn into goo.

I know that it isn't one of the models that you posted, but I have had an Ultra Dot on my Mark II target for years and I absolutely love it.

I have an Osprey on one of my AR's and it has held up well and kept zero with no problems.

if you are looking to buy one with the 4 different reticles (small dot, large dot, cross hairs and circle with dot) you might find that they don't always shoot to the same point of aim, so you end up using the one you like and stay with it and will never use the others.

I had a BSA, not the green, on my MK III Hunter. During the second trip to the range the lens fell out. I didn't do what you are doing now, but it seems that if I had checked there were quite a few others that had the same problem I had. Let us know what you choose and how you like it.

+1. I borrowed a friend's gun and changed the setting, only to find out I'd ruined his zero on the new setting as well as the old.

I have a Millett SP-2 which is OK, but I'm not recommending Millett optics to anyone at this point due to their complete lack of customer support. Calls to Millett tell you to call Bushnell, who really have no interest in supporting Millett products. They tell you to go to their Support page, which only has Bushnell products, etc. Very frustrating.

You get what you pay for in optics. I have Ultradots on both of my Mark pistols and have been completely satisfied. I chose the MatchDot because I can change the MOA to 2, 4, 6, or 8.

I've had an ultra dot slide-mounted on my target 45acp for 15 -18 years and it has withstood uncounted thousands of rounds.

OK, I'll jump in on the UltraDot "love fest!" :P

They're a little more expensive than some, but they're highly regarded. I've owned three over the last 17 years. I've been very pleased with them. One had to be sold for tuition money. The other two are still ticking.

If you want "The BEST", go for the UntraDot Match Dot. Great indoors or out. The dot is actually a round dot not a comma looking thing. Expensive yes but worth it.

For under $100 you can get a tasco propoint pdp3 that is almost as good as the ultradots. I've had zero issues with mine for over 10 years.

we switched from Aimpoint to the Ultradots years ago, no complaints........
lots of low cost "dots" out there,you get what you pay for "most of the time.." yes, know of and seen some "exceptions"........

I've used a few & owned a few others down thru the years. All I presently own are three Milletts, & they have proven flawless for me.

I put an old Optima 2000 on my MarkIII hunter. It works well! It weighs 1/2 oz. and has a 8 moa dot. A 4 MOA dot would work better with a .22. I had on my P97.

I have one on my 10/22 and it's clearer than the BSA and Tru-Glo I tried first. Holds zero very well too. Very good quality for the price.

I'm a little off brand here, too, but I'd like to follow up on your Ultradot experience. At 67, I need help seeing what I'm shooting if I can expect to compete at a modest level at steel shoots and bowling pins. I asked the people in my club what their choice in red dots was and, almost unanimously, they said C-More with an 8-minute dot.

But I'm taken with the specs of the Ultradot Pan AV. I like the fact that the W and E adjustments are clicks (C-More is continuous). And I have a good feeling about optical products made in Japan. Finally, Ultradot products have a lifetime guaranty.

Does anyone here know if one of the two circle apertures in the Pan AV is a reasonable substitute for the big dot in the C-More? I'm not trying to specialize. Weekend shoots is one thing I'll do with my Mark III. But it's not my life's work. I do like to plink and shoot at targets, too.

C-more sights are available with either continuous adjustment or click adjustment and with your choice of dot size, aluminum or composite, and they are made in the usa.
