Hello everyone,
I saw this question on another forum and not being sure of the difference myself, I would like to ask if the dovetail cut
for the rear sight is the same on the MKI and the MKII.
Thanks,
Calvin.

Mk II vs MK iii & 22/45 rear sight slot??
Are they the same?

MKI/MKII/MKIII & 22/45 dovetails are all cut the same

So does this mean an adjustable sight for a MK 2 will work on a fixed sight MK 1 - or is the front sight height a problem? I tried the "search" function, but it is not currently working.

The front sight height must be taller for a rear adjustable sight base. The rear dovetail slots are the same dimensions for both model sight versions. Volquartsen offers an extra tall front sight for adding a rear adjustable to a Standard tapered barrel.

OK, thank you - this should fix me up!

you are better off putting a LPA (low profile adjustable) on the "fixed" sight guns, uses the original front sight....you put a proper "sized" ( height) front sight blade and it will look like a can opener, and be about as deadly, cut everything in sight( including your hand when you will be cleaning or wiping it off) 8)

OK, but I'm not familiar with them. Where do I find one? Thanks!

While Brownells does carry the LPA sights, they don't list one for the Ruger Standard pistols for some reason. Midway does have 'em listed but they never seem to have those in stock. Here is the Ruger LPA mounted on an RST4 early pistol and it uses the factory front sight.

I normally stock these rear sights (white outline rear blade) for the Ruger Standards, but after posting that, I am now out-of-stock. More are on order. In some cases there have been a few folks that wanted a slightly higher front sight. I have a print somewhere around here where a slightly taller front sight can be easily fabricated if anyone is interested.

Do you have an estimated date for delivery? Thanks.

I am interested in finding one of these sights to put on a Mark III standard I own. Anyone know where I can find one?

The $39.97 boat has done sailed. You might try Brownells---in stock, but they are $89.95-OUCH!.

well, all I can say is that's still cheaper than buying a new gun. my fixed sight MK 1 is a good shooter, but otherwise useless as no ammo hits close to the sights. :(

Do you get a good group even though it is not hitting the point of aim? If you are getting a good group, then it will be worth while to do something about the sights. Can't you drift the rear sight left or right(windage) or get a taller or shorter front sight(elevation)?

Yes, I got good groups, and I might be able to "adjust" the sights. Windage is easy, but elevation is not. The real problem here is that .22 ammo from the same manufacturer does vary from time to time. I learned the hard way that each lot may very well have a different POI, and even be more (or less) accurate than a previous lot. When I shot silhouette, I would always buy a years supply from a proven good lot.

This month I am shooting in a Postal Match with some pretty small targets. A target the size of a bumble bee at 25 ft doesn't give much room for error.

Of course this isn't relevant to casual plinking, but I'm trying for pretty serious (and repeatable) accuracy. Thus I've tried pretty much every .22 ammo that is reasonably available. All in all, adjustable sights are necessary for my use - otherwise the gun becomes a plinker.

Two more mods you can make that will help a lot(if you haven't already done them) is to at least put in a Volquartsen Drop in Sear(or the entire trigger kit). Should take your trigger pull down to about to 2lbs. to 2.5lbs. Also install a trigger with an over travel stop. These two items, along with the adjustable rear sight, will help your shooting a lot. You already have learned one very important rule with firearms, every firearm has a rule to itself as to what ammo it likes/dislikes---and this like/dislike can very from lot no. to lot no. with the same very same ammo brand.

One last question, have you ever shot a Ruger MKII or MKIII with a 5 1/2 inch bull barrel with thumb rest grips? IMHO, that really makes a good target pistol when you also have the Volquartsen Drop in Sear and the Trigger installed on it.

Here's a link to Rimfire Sports & Custom(I have used them before---good service). You will have to scroll down a little over half the page to find the sear, hammer and kits:

This one has had the trigger done, but no stop installed.

I also have a MK 2, but it is a 6-7/8"; I chose that one, as I was shooting Creedmore (prone) and didn't want to ventilate my leg.

Thanks for the feedback! :)
