I have a Ruger all weather M77 MARK II with sn 781-00005 that I bought new several years ago, just curious as to whether this adds to the value of the rifle or not.

Welcome to the Forum..........it all depends on just where ( what number) the series started at for any particular model, as once the numbers go through their series, and the NEXT prefix comes up, they of course start at "0" again.......we see folks get all excited from time to time "thinking" they have a LOW number, when it is the next series in sequence...yes, does LOOK cool and you may 'fool' someone else, as they say, "they all have a story..."
normally LOW numbers, that low, are "in the family, or in the factory...."

follow up , looked in the RENE and they started at #780-00001 in 1989...........yours falls in 1992

Thanks for the welcome Rugerguy, from what you are telling me, being the second series I should just keep using this rifle as I always have. Taken alot of varmits and one mule deer with it. Thanks for the info.

All that said, there are "number guys" who might think that rifle has some appeal.

Never can tell . . . you might get a PM from one of them.

Just out of curiosity, what chambering is it?

:)

Ale-8 is 'spot on'.....never know, MOST folks have NO clue, or even KNOW what the "prefix" means, entails, they ONLY SEE all them zeros and a 5 !!!!! 8)

(use it ,enjoy it, for what it was made and intended for, and let "history", down the road take care of the rest)
