I am new to this site and I was hoping for some input regarding my new 1911. The trigger seems to have some slop in it, about 1/16" travel foward &back, is this normal? I called Ruger and they say this is normal, I have shot Colts, Sigs, and Kimber and their triggers are sloid. Any info would be appreciated....Great site

If you handled 1911's with NO SLOP in the trigger .... it wasn't adjusted properly. 1911's should have a certain amount of 'take-up' before it gets firm and breaks.

explain this, trigger does not rattle but does move side to side about 1/16 in and same backward than forward, when finger is at firm fire, trigger is outstanding, talked with Kate said play was normal.

It is normal. The 1911 is a combat handgun .... drop it in the sand or a mudpuddle, and with any less clearance you would have reliability issues. I'm guessing this is your first 1911 ?

A 1911's trigger is considered from 'firm-up' until break, as far as I'm concerned. After 'firm-up', if there's grittiness, notchiness, creep, or anything other than a clean break .... that is not a very good 1911 trigger. The trigger is why 1911 folks love 1911's. There simply is no better trigger on any handgun, of any model, in existence.

revhigh, you seem to have considerable knowledge of the 1911's, thanks for sharing, this SR is my 1st, so with any gun there is a learning curve. So far I love the gun I was happy to get one, most shops are lucky to see one. Before this gun I had a Ruger P90, and I liked that gun, had a very looong trigger pull though...

Thx, but most of my 1911 knowledge is from a practical (usage) point of view. There's several people here who actually know how to make what I describe actually happen.

Although the P90 is the best of Ruger's autos, it doesn't compare to a good 1911.

Trigger is EVERYTHING, and triggers don't get much worse than the P-series triggers, or much better than 1911 triggers. You can't shoot any gun to it's potential if it's got a crappy trigger.

I just picked mine up Friday and the trigger as an 1/8th inch front to back movement plus it moves up/down and side to side. Wasn't sure if that's normal as my RIA has barely any free play to it. Over all the fit and finish is very nice I am happy with it.

The current RIA's are known to have excellent triggers right out of the box. RIA determined that the biggest complaint about their guns were the triggers a few years ago. Since then, they've worked on them and have produced absolutely excellent triggers out of the box. There is still a variance of course, but they are generally acceptable to the majority of buyers.

I tested 6 different RIA's a few months ago at a local large dealer, and 5 of 6 had very good triggers.
