Re-Barreling an M77 ? ?

Just curious,
If I wanted to re-barrel my M-77 .308, tang safety model.
Say to a new .308 or 243 barrel that is short chambered.
What all is entailed ?
Just looking at it, it seems like a very easy swap similar to doing a Mauser.

If you have the Know-How to Chamber and install a new barrel on a Mauser type rifle you could do the Ruger.

Just find the thread size of the Ruger barrel, cut the threads on a lathe. Taper the barrel. Rent a .308 reamer and go at it. Don't know what short chambered is. If you have a good load worked up, use it to chamber the new barrel. You can use the loaded round as a GO guage and add .015. It'll be a tack driver. JMHO

I thought it looked fairly straight forward.
I have done a few Mausers and a 1903A3, so I already have a barrel vise and action wrench.
I'll rent a finish reamer.
Won't be doing it soon, want to figure out what caliber and profile to rebarrel it to.

Cool! I have done several mausers and remington's. I did my friend's short action remington rifle. Chambered in 22-250. The barrel contour was easy I hogged material off the barrel till it was even with the receiver and 1 1/4 inch at the muzzle. It was heavy, but it shoots 1 1/2 inch groups at 300 yards. Prarie dog killin s.o.b! I set the headspace at .001. The load was a 53 gr BTHP, 37.5? grs of 4350. 3200 fps. It's still shooting great. Rebarreled in '92. Fun was had by all! Good shooting!
