I recently purchased an RCBS Uniflow Powder Measure CLICK HERE and while trying to clean it I discovered I could not get the plastic powder hopper to come loose from the metal frame. Are these parts pressed together semi-permanently? I am now using a 1" paint brush to get up in there and brush out any powder that is stuck inside but it would be easier if the plastic hopper came loose. I also discovered it is a good idea to clean the thing over a large piece of paper to catch all the powder sprinkles. :D :D

edit to add: RCBS has a rebate of $10 on a $50 purchase and $50 on a $300 purchase till the end of the year.
I also got 'birthday' pricing from Midway. My total cost comes out to $69.04 + shipping.

Hi,

Jimbo, my Uniflow is "ancient" (maybe 30+ yrs old?) and the plastic hopper appears to be glued or otherwise permanently attached to the metal on it. I've never been able to get it off...

On cleaning it, sounds like you may have a static situation causing the clinging powder. Now, I've never done this w/ my powder measures, but used this trick w/ shotshell loaders for years: take a wire and attach it to some metal part of the loader, or measure in this case. Run that down to a grounded screw on one of your wall electric outlets.

That grounds the machine, and eliminates a LOT of the clinging powder. In the shotshell machines, it helped w/ consistency of powder drops, too.

Another trick comes from the instructions for the Lee dippers when they have static problems: they say to wash the dippers in dish soap and let dry WITHOUT rinsing. It works on the dippers, and a "wipe down" of my Lee "Perfect(?)" measure w/ a dishrag and soapy water helped there, too.

I've heard people say you can wipe the hopper out w/ a dryer sheet like you'd use for your laundry, too.

Good luck!

I remember that trick now also. I'll try wiping the insides with a used dryer sheet. That has helped me with funnels and pans before. :D :D

I would certainly call the manufacturer...they are happy to answer question when they can...
