RCA 40TH Anniversary Flat Top

My question is; Would anybody who buys it shoot it or just put it away to admire? I got my letter from RCA with the order form today and have been contemplating it (yes, even me the DA guy :D ).
 
The front sight on the revolver in the offering photo certainly is not the correct sight for a reincarnation of the original period firearm. The sight shown is that found on the heavy barreled 10 1/2 Super Blackhawk from the mid 1980's...............Just sayin' 8)
 
One has to remember that the gun is not a 40 year anniversary of a gun built like that. It to commemorate 40 years of the Ruger Collectors Association. They could have made any gun to commemorate the RCA!

Personally I think they are beautiful and will match with way older 10 inch 357 and 44.

Well, you're right about that, I guess.

Had they been going for "period correct" accuracy from 1975 they wouldn't have used a mid-sized .44 Special Flattop configuration.

Yes in 1975 it wouldn't have been a Flattop, or .44 special or a 10 1/2 in bl. But as the RCA is a special group of people then this gun that they are using is a special one of a kind gun to commemorate the RCA.
 
Jay and I talked about doing this gun late last year. I suggested a 10" 44 mag flattop to compliment the 10" 357 that was done five years prior. Early this year it was decided to do a mid size frame in a 44 special. We believed it would be more of a rare gun that way. The project took a year to get done working with Ruger. I first seen the proto type August 15th. Some of the other decisions were finish and how many to be produced. As many should recall the 357 sold out fast and several RCA members did not receive one of the 53 guns so it was decided for this gun to do 100. These guns I am sure will be sold out by the end of the year. At 695.00 they are a great investment. The 357's with in months doubled in value. I can say this guns will also. It is also set up for those who bought the 35 RCA Anniversary guns can get the same serial number in the 44 Special. This is a great opportunity to own a rare gun at a very reasonable price.

I would like to see the front sight of this gun turned into the ramp style as well....certainly something Ruger can do, although the bull barrel dimension may not allow that with the radius on their existing front sight inventory.
To me the hook sight represents a target sight...something developed for the silhouette shooters. Although you certainly can shoot the heck out of this one, a ramped blade would look much better, and anyway...not sure anybody will be silhouetting with a .44 Special.

How many current members of the RCA are there that they are only producing 100 of these revolvers? Why wouldn't they make as many as the orders they receive by a specific date?

And can someone join the RCA today And order one tomorrow?

I don't know the answer to your first question,,as to the second I would say yes! Join today and buy your gun today, :wink: .

The limited ordering period allows members who bought the 35th year anniversary guns the chance to mate their guns up. After December 20th, 2015 its first come first served to all.
That's how I understand it.

Very much. This project was started late 2015. We decided to do the 10" to compliment the 357 done for the 35 year. The 44 Spec. Will also make it more collectible. Jay and Dalia put a lot of time in this project and I wish to thank both of them for all the effort it has taken. 100 guns were done so membership had a better chance to buy one. They are well worth the wait. The RCA hit a home run with these. They will soon be highly collectible firearm.

I too ordered a consecutive set. Two sons. just hope they make it soon. In my humble opinion they look fantastic.

My card was charged on March 9th, and I have yet to see the gun.

Good points and good observations, but Ale-8 is CORRECT, that the factory (they), cannot get any of the anniversary guns right..............

Yes, I acknowledge that these are RCA specials, not Ruger anniversary commemoratives. As such, they could be whatever the RCA folks wanted. Looks like some nice stuff there.
