Put 100 flawless rounds through the SR9 Today.

Indoor
11 yards.

Gun shot great.

Nice glad you like it. It seems to get better for me at least (SR40C) the more I shoot it. The grittyness is gone, and trigger feels better. I've read some people do not believe handgun break in is a real thing, or that its mostly myth. Maybe so I dunno, but it seemed to be a real factor at play in my gun at least. The extractor was producing a spark effect out of the side of the ejection port, at least I think it was the extractor. That metal on metal kinda spark for just a fraction of a second. Most times my eye missed it.

A guy at the range told me not only to keep shooting it, but in fact to shoot everything I had while the gun was still warm. Sure enough it went away and never has happened since.

So, at least with my pistol getting 500+ through it helped it operate smoother.

Ive got 830 rounds through my SR9. Gun shoots great and has been
super reliable. I had one FTE the first time I shot it. I think it was due
to the fact that I took it right to the range without cleaning it and I was
using cheap dirty ammo. Not a single FTE/FTL/FTF since. Gun is super accurate and I just love to shoot it.

My experience is exactly the same, after probably 1500 rounds. I have shot many targets with large gaping holes in the black. Still a great pistol.

Same here. Super gun. I dont think it's a strech to say that the SR9 was the spring board for Ruger's huge success over the last number of years.

I agree with mg2112. Things have been pretty good for Ruger since they introduced the gun that went head-on with their American-made safe version of a Glock 1n 2009. Many said there was no market for another striker-fired pistol.

It seemed to put them back on a new course of innovative new products, one home run after another.

I wonder what a non-LEO sales comparison of the SR series vs. Glock since 2009 would look like.

Watching it from the outside, and looking at the big picture of the last 30 years or so I get the feeling that we have reached a point in semi auto pistol development and design that has peaked to its max potential for the most part, at about this point in time.

They know how to make a reliable semi auto now in just about all configurations and calibers. There is less and less trash out there in the market it seems. Some say everything is becoming more Glock like in design. Be that as it may, each year there seems to be less and less difference between companies semi auto pistol design philosophy.

It all seems to be moving towards an ideal overall design that the SR series embodies very well. But then again the same could be said for Springfield, Glock, S&W, Beretta. ect ect.

Its becoming increasingly less interesting to me as the designs mimic each other and the choice between one pistol and another may come down to ergonomics or some other minutiae of a particular firearm, which most admit would make no real difference if you had to use one firearm or another in a real situation.

I may ruffle some feathers but as far as function, I can see no real difference between my SR40C and a Glock 23 in terms of meaningful performance in the role they are intended for. I think the same could be said for any comparison of top manufacturers.

I still prefer Ruger, some may prefer Glock, or the XD's but if everyone is honest I think most will admit its increasingly splitting hairs in terms of capability.

Agreed

Another satisfied SR9 owner. Can't make it jam. I've tried many HPs and intensional limp wresting, but it always goes bang and hits where I aim it.

I'm over 3000 rds thru mine. The trigger snaps cleanly, this pistol points as naturally as my high power and comes so smoothly out of my black hawk serpa its like an extension of my hand. Emergency and tactical reloads are clean and smooth. I have not failed to qualify expert with this pistol, and typically cut one ragged baseball size hole in side the 5 ring from 7 and 15 yards. And it does not look like a shoe box with a trigger.

shoot straight and shoot often
GF

I am up to 980 rounds fired so far. I can do a medium sized ragged hole
with my SR9 at 11 yards. Always the last gun I shoot so I can leave the
range feeling good about my shooting. GF nailed it - accurate, reliable,
comfortable, and easy on the eyes.

Do any SR9 haters exist? If so, what's the gripe?

My only gripe is the darn thing is hungry!! Seems with 3 mags it will eat a box of ammo fast and not even burp.

SR9 full size. Love it. This is my favorite pistol right now. I installed a Ghost trigger & fiber optic site, dumped the mag disconnect and did a little polishing. Man this is a sweet shooting pistol. The trigger is almost as crisp and easy as a single action but still feels safer. I have used it in IDPA style matches and felt it was as competitive as I can shoot! I am currently loading 125gr lead 357's over ~7gr of #7 powder. (the barrel slugged @ .356" but it seems to like the .357" size bullet better) Soft shooting for a 1150+fps load. I did have a few (like 4 or 5) stovepipe/FTL's at first but haven't had an issue after about 500 rounds or so. I have run well over 5k of all types of ammo through it and it has not had one issue. A+ on this weapon Ruger!

BTW- if you load lead~ it took trying a few different combinations before I reached a load that didn't lead the barrell. Make sure the barrell is clean and free of any copper fouling. I believe this was a factor at first. I do occasionally treat the barrell with moly coating but feel it was mostly fit and load. It seems the slower powders work better and +0.001" on the bullet size is necessary. After the load was worked out the barrell has just "seasoned" to lead and now it just brushes out easilly if there are any streaks at all. Accuracy is spot on even after shooting 200 or more rounds.

I just wanted to add that I think its really cool someone is using the SR series competitively. Another poster was here recently asking if anyone competed with these pistols. I'm sure your in the minority as a Ruger user, but I would personally have a chuckle to myself seeing someone score better then the many of the many 1911 raceguns or even Glocks our there.
