Ranch Rifle - 223 Question

I have a 223 Mini 14 Ranch rifle, first 3 digits are 197 - will the gun fit this stock?

A "197" is considered a Series 190, yes?

yes it will fit you will need to transfer the liner over to the new stock.

both the receiver / mag retaining bracket and the forgrip heat shield will need to be moved.... but it's no big deal.

Got it - thanks. I'm dumping an aftermarket (Andean) laminated for the walnut factory version. Liner & screws are cheap so I just oordered another set from Brownells along with the extended butt pad. It ain''t the greatest but the ideal LOP for me is about 18" so every bit helps.

I'm not expecting great grain, but it's cheap as heck and new stock.

I'm pretty sure that Gunpartscorp has that stock categorized incorrectly. It should say 180 series.

Thanks for the heads up, here's the annoying crapola I've dealt with thus far ...

By computer on Sunday I ordered the $37.00 hardwood version, then saw the "walnut 190" and called Numrich Monday to see if they could change the order - for $30.00 more it was "such a deal". I got them before the package went out, gave them the new stock # and even a description and out it went. I checked the status order last night and instead of sending the walnut stock they sent - an M1 carbine stripped trigger housing. WTH?? Stock numbers are nearly the same.

Instead of waiting last night I placed an order for the walnut stock, figured I'd have to order it anyway, when the carbine housing shows up I'll send it back and collect back some shipping cost too.

And now the stock, when it gets here, won't fit. Course if I'd read this 30 minutes earlier I'd have time to call & change it, but that's come & gone. What a screwed up affair this has been from start to finish.

So I guess I should ask - which $40.00 hardwood stock am I supposed to order for a 190 series Ranch Rifle, this?

Numrich is funny...

I ordered a bunch of small stuff from them years ago... I got almost all the stuff I ordered, plus a bunch of stuff for guns I haven't even bought yet (I need guns for the parts they sent me).

I called to let them know of the overshipment... They said "keep it".... I guess the shipping back wasn't worth it to them... If memory serves, all the extra parts added up to close to $70.00 bucks...

That one will work.

Well FWIW the walnut one listed "in error" to fit the 190 series showed up today and it fits perfectly - the forend channel is deep enough, no problems at all. Caught a break for a change.

I'll be damned... Tempting to order one up for myself, but with my luck I'd get one that didn't work.

No one has worse luck on minor stuff like this than me - if they had a pile of 1000 that fit and one that did not I'd have gotten it. So I'd say order away, it's worth it. And if you find a walnut forend on EBay (I did, for $25.00) it's a perfect match - retro Ranch Rifle.

The stock does have a fairly sharp transition from the bottom of the forend to the magwell area - pretty distinct, not rounded or blended. I like the look.
