I was really looking for the .30 carbine in the first photo when I got the offer to sell/buy the Hawkeye. I already had a .30 carbine, but it's a first-year production 3-screw and just too darn nice to shoot. It doesn't even have a visible ring on the cylinder (well, maybe just a faint one under the right light).

The .30 carbine came up for sale first and I sprung for it. As I was taking the ad down off the website, I saw the offer to sell the Hawkeye. I called the fellow and he was a real nice guy, asking what I thought was a fair price. When I told him I wanted it, he offered to drive the 60 miles to my place and even to take a check. The credit union had already closed being as it was a Sunday afternoon. Needless to say, I didn't argue the price. He turned out to be as good as his word and I certainly hope he had no trouble depositing my check on Monday.

I never thought I would have a Hawkeye in my safe, much less a low number, virtually pristine example. I doubt I'll shoot it much - the .30 carbine has ballistics that are just as good for what I want (developing 100 yard shooting skills with a scope). I've already bought a 2 power Vortex scope to replace the Bushnell Trophy Red Dot on the .30.

Want to thank Hank from Louisiana for his thoughtful advice on buying the Hawkeye. Oh - just to keep this posting on subject (pictures) here's a pic of the 3-screw .30 carbine that I don't want to scratch.

That was a real stretch for me, but that kind of a deal only happens to a guy once. Fortunately, the Mrs. gave me the nod. Love that woman.

The seller said he had a box of ammo for it - original white box Winchester. I hope he can find it and sends it.

Believe it or not, those are phone pics. I finally went for a smart phone and got a RAZR Android a couple of months ago. Right before they lowered the price, natcherally!!!

Hank let me shoot his Brass-framed Hawkeye last month at the Fredericksburg 3 rugerforum gathering and I decided I would like to have one. I loved the lack of recoil. Well, I have one now by good fortune and it's almost too nice to shoot. But, I'm going to (carefully) do it anyway.

Holy smoke & congratulations! :shock: Nice stuff! That Hawkeye is a hum dinger! That 30 Carbine ain't any slouch either... I've got a few of the BKH-31 OMs laying around but I have pretty much come to grips that some guys get Hawkeyes, and some guys don't! If clean livin' is how you pulled that off, then I'm out of the running! ;)
