Hello, I am a Ruger owner of a couple Rugers..single six, mark 1, SR9....my questions is about a Hawes Western Marshall in .44mag. Can the front ramp sight be removed and put a high viz sight or something other than the ramp. The ramp looks like it is part of the barrel. My problem is seeing the front sight when shooting any gun....I have reader shooting glasses but the gun has to be at a certain distance. Thanks

You might want to try a little paint first - just a dab of paint on the portion of the ramp you see when sighting thru the rear sight. For some folks white paint works - others orange... Easy to try different colors. Acetone solvent easily removes any paint to try another color...

Another fix is to file a notch into the front sight ramp and file a piece of colored plastic (typically orange) to insert into the notch. It looks similar to a S&W front sight with orange insert.

I don't like and can't see very well the "Hi vis" front sights - but yes, your front sight can be removed and another sight installed. The front sights are typically silver soldered/brazed in place so the process of removing will likely damage the finish of your barrel and it will have to be refinished.

Good luck!

I'm looking to add some visibility to my SP101 and Security Six sites also. I agree with cellar701 and after some research I plan to add some high vis paint to both sites. Several guys with SR's have given good reviews of this product that I have on order. It's bright green in dark, but white tint at daytime, there are other colors also. Here is a link and pic.

Hello, Thanks for the reply's. I did put some red plastic model paint on the ramp sight and didn't work as well as I thought it would. I'm going to try the glow in the dark paint...looks pretty good in the pic....Question: Why is the ramp so tall on this gun, because of it being a .44 mag..? Just wondering...
