I heard that fairly recently as well, as told by Lori Leiberman (who actually wrote it) on some program. I told my sister who was a big Don McLean fan, but she already knew that little tidbit of trivia. I had to laugh when someone of Fox attributed the song to having been written by Flack and then attempted to honor her by playing a cover by some other band.
I really liked her beautiful voice singing "The first time ever I saw your face" in the 1972 Clint Eastwood thriller movie "Play misty for me". A great movie with some beautiful music.
