Quickload for a Flat Top 44 Spl

Need a quick-n-easy load for jacketed (NOT cast) 180-200gr bullets with Lil Gun or H110. Gun is a flat top 44 spl shorty, and I am not looking for near-mag or flamethrower loads.
Just a decent accurate load for woods-walking and meat in the pot (headshot accurate for bunnies) and maybe enough poop for the 170# cat that falls in behind me on the trail as the sun goes down...

what say ye for an everyday load with no quirks?

Wrong powders for easy going woods walking loads. I believe both of those need to be run full throttle. I'll have to check the manuals. In my 4 manuals, there is no data using those powders for the .44spec.. Working up loads with those powders should not be a quick kinda thing. Procede with caution, but by all means give it a try. stevemb

looking for experience with these or others. "quickload". = exeperienced, proven.

I've used Lilgun with heavier bullets (240-250) around 16-16.4gr , but not with lighter ones. Recoil is not sharp but a push more to my liking.

The "quick load" is the Skeeter load. Both powders you listed are for near-mag and flamethrower loads. Not sure what'cha want, but with those powders, don't think you'll get what ya want. From your number of posts, gotta believe you know that. Curious. stevemb

The "quick load" is the Skeeter load.

+1. 7.5g of Unique/Universal under 240-250g SWC. Good to go. A more powerful load (I've only shot a few in my .44Specials) is the Keith load (17.0g of 2400 under 240-250g SWC). I much prefer the Skeeter load as my 'walking' around load. Both of these loads are above SAAMI.... Not responsible for the use of these loads .. Do your 'own' research . Never shoot 200g bullets from my specials (and I do have a sheriff New Vaquero).

Take a look here at those loads around 1000fps with 180gr jacketed. Might give you an idea.

Brian Pearce had a load for the 44 Special Ruger flat top that used a 200 grain jacketed bullet and H110. It was in one of the first Handloader articles he did when the Lipsey's guns came out. Can't remember which one.

It's going to be a zinger, though.

I didn't know the term quickload was unique to one caliber or writer. I've heard it applied to many.

Anyway, my Lilgun loads are only around 920-930 fps tested (subsonic), and no probs with the heavier bullets. Just looking for favorites here.

You are probably thinking of QuickLOAD software. It is a balistics computer program that can predict outcomes for changing inputs. (powder, bullet, etc.)

What FOLKS ARE TRYING TO TELL YOU IS THIS, you picked the wrong weight bullet and perhaps the worst propellents to push it with. Other than that have at it. IF Quickload is worth it's salt I'd be amazed were there any combinations thereof.
And so it goes...

That's why I ask the experts here. No offense meant, I don't frequent the loading section much.

The 240-250 weights work very well. I'll start another thread then, asking for favorites with lighter pills.

Ok, I found that Handloader article. Pearce lists a 200 grain Speer Gold Dot with 22 grains of H110 for 1280+ fps. A 240 XTP with 18.5 grains of H110 does 1112 fps.

He lists these as being "Category 3" loads, 25k psi or less. This is Handloader #236.

wow, under 25k and almost 1300 fps in a 44 spl??? Think I'll stick with LilGun and my subsonic loads!

If you need something like that perhaps you shoud be packing a 44 magnum. Those loads are way over anything like a 44 special. :shock: :shock:

I found this quote very interesting.
