Question on reloading a 12 gauge

If you got some new hulls would you us a 6 or 8 cramp on them?

Hi,

I use a 6 point on mine, John. They come out w/ good crimps whether using skived or unskived hulls. 8 point almost requires skived hulls for best results... some hulls come pre-skived, others you need to buy a tool and do it yourself. The factories like 8 pt on their target loads because they'll give a nicer crimp when reloading tapered hulls w/ lighter loads, and there's some argument they'll last longer, but most field loads I see these days w/ straight walled hulls have a 6 pt.

BTW, "skiving" refers to a slight thinning of the case wall at the mouth of the hull so it will accept a crimp better.
