I've seen enough of your targets posted on the forum over the past few years to know that you are more than a decent shot. I wish I had as much decency as you!Rodfac said:I'm a decent shot but...

Just use the Keith load in your .44Spec. My load is a half a grain less than the Keith load, and I get a 240g SWC at 1246fps out of a 5 1/2" flattop. This just touches the bottom edge of .44Mag velocities. As for accuracy, my specials seem to match Rodfac's. What 'does' seem 'magical' is in all my .44Special load development, it was hard to find a load that the test gun did NOT like. Seemed to just be boringly 'accurate'.... Go figure. So for me, I just setted on the Skeeter load and was done with it. I don't shoot anything less than 240g bullets in mine.... that reads 1200 fps for a 260 grain Keith in a 4 5/8" barrel.

YMMV.
I have checked into this before and have never found a gunsmith willing to do it inexpensively. If I recall correctly most wanted close to $200 to do this. I have an OM 30 Carbine that would benefit from a taller front sight.Bob Wright said:Just as a matter of interest, you don't have to remove the front sight ramp. Your gunsmith can mill off the blade and cut a groove in the ramp. Then he can make a new blade of correct height and pin (or screw) it in place. No refinisheing is required. And a fairly simple and inexpensive process.
