Question 22/45 scope mount screws

I'm hesitant to ask a simple unimportant question but here goes. Since I don't use a scope on my 22/45 Mark III, I removed the scope mount. Put the screws back into the top of the barrel and the rear screw contacts the bolt. I've had this pistol approximately 4 years and don't remember if it came with the screws mounted or not. Without the rear screw in place, the spring and top of bolt are visible which is another entry for dirt, etc. I'm considering using blue loc-tite and only running it down only about 70%. Open for better ideas........like I say, trivial, but it bothers me. Mebbe a shorter screw is available?

If you put 6-48 X 1/8" plug screws (headless) with blue loc-tite in the threaded holes they will be flush at the top and not go in far enough to hit the bolt. You might already have them if you bought the gun new. When the gun left the factory it probably had these installed in it with the scope mount and the scope mount appropriate scope mount screws in a seperate package for later use. If you don't have them you can get some at just about any shop that mounts scopes or order some from Midway, Brownells etc.

Thanks Captain....will check that out tomorrow. Have a gunsmith here locally that just might have them....thanks again. By the way, I did buy the gun new but if I had them, they have long gone south.....

If all else fails, Ruger has the screws. I've ordered several sets.

those are actually 'cap' (positive stop) head plug screws, will have a slight ridge around the outside so as to NOT keep screwing down into the hole, nothing to stop them........ and if its a hole drilled through and NOT a 'blind hole' they can go all the way through and yes, block the bolt or fall inside.......gives it a nice , finished look .............

Thanks to everyone for your quick responses. Have been hanging out on a couple of other forums and neglecting this one....spending much more time on this one in the future. I'll check locally first and if no luck, call Ruger. It's probably a minor thing to most folks but guess I could be classified as a "perfectionest"!

we get all of ours from Brownells, all 4 types (2 in blue, 2 in stainless) the 6x48 as well as the next size up , 8x40...................

I love the 22/45 and it's totally off the subject of the original post but I'm not as accurate with it as with an old mid 60's High Standard sharpshooter. And I can't figure out why....have shot both of them using a rest. Maybe I just haven't found the right ammo for the '45.

No comparison, they didn't call them "High standards" for nothing........in a ransom rest many, ,many, High Standards were capable of shooting ONE hole groups.......and yes, like gas in ones car, gotta find the ammo that works BEST in that gun................no, am no longer a 'dealer" been retired now for some years but still have our accounts with some of the suppliers from the old days , for 'parts', and those screws are one of the FEW things we stock anymore,always get guys looking to plug their scope mount holes.......
