Punisher Skull...am I missing something?

I've been seeing the Punisher Skull symbol all over the place.

I know there is a connection with Chris Kyle, and, of course the comic book character. But is there something else that is connected to the symbol that I'm missing?

I see it on AR receivers and magazine wraps, and have seen more than a few windshield stickers. It's become quite prolific.

They all can't be "comic book nerds"
