Primer Pocket Uniforming anyone?

Just curious to see how many folks uniform primer pockets on pistol and rifle brass. I've been doing it out of sheer habit for many years. Anyone else?

Yes...All cases uniform in length, times fired and headstamp too.

Nope...but I do have the habit of deburring the flash hole from inside the case.
The only actual "pocket work" I've ever done is cutting the crimp ring off of military cases prior to their first reload.....but hey, maybe I'm just being lazy about it. :lol: .

I uniform the primer pockets and deburr the flash holes in all rifle brass; never bothered for handgun brass.

I never uniformed the primer pockets in pistol brass because I never found anything wrong when I checked them. I have tried meticulously cleaning them and that just made for looser primers so now I just clean them a little in the tumbler. I always check to make sure there is no media in the primer pocket or in the flash hole before loading.

I do so on any caliber that I'm super serious about in my rifle brass. I look at my brass, & my loading as a means of eliminating all possible mechanical issues before the "loose nut behind the trigger" does his thing. In the few rifle calibers, I uniform the primer pockets, de-burr the inside of the flash hole, trim to uniform length, properly chamfer, separate brands, etc to make my reloads as uniform as possible. I like to think all the little things I do attribute to the sub MOA I get from my factory barrels on my Contenders & my bolt guns.

Explain how "meticulously cleaning" primer pockets makes them "looser". Did you use sandpaper or what? :shock:

I'm happy that you do make sure the flash hole isn't obstructed before reloading...THAT'S real precision! :wink:

Nope. Don't even have the tool for 'uniform' primer pockets in my revolver brass. Never saw any problems. I don't like rifle shooting, so I've never bothered to work up any loads for rifle... I do make sure the rifle brass is within length specs.

Yes, I do all my brass. It is just one of the steps in brass prep that I do when reloading.
