Price check on 1968 Blackhawk & 1981 Super Blackhawk

Ruger Blackhawk .357 Magnum s.n. 1196XX (dates to 1968 according to Ruger's website) $250
Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum s.n. 83-959XX (dates to 981 according to Ruger's website) $300

Both are blue with Pachmayr grips and long barrels. Not sure of exact barrel length as I haven't seen the guns yet. Probably 6 1/2" to 7 1/2", right?

Possibly with original grips but not boxes or papers.

I will see the guns tomorrow.

Buy or not buy at the above prices assuming they're in excellent condition?

Man, for $250 I'd take a fairly worn OM 357 and use it for base gun on a custom conversion, or just as a great shooter.

I felt lucky to find a super tight "shooter" from weaselmeatgravy on this site last week. Its not excellent, just some honest wear, and he asked $295 + $15 shipping. I had NO cash so I traded him a gun I knew was worth more than he was asking for the OM 357. We're both happy. I feel like I got a good deal.

I paid $600 for a VG flat top a couple days ago, which brings me to my only caution in this post: be careful or you'll want more and more, and more....!

I saw the Rugers today. Both were mint, mint, mint. Both with Pachmayr grips though. Unknown if he can find the original grips.

The .357 was just perfect. Gorgeous dark blue with no wear anywhere to be seen. No hammer block either.

The .44 Magnum had a very plum loading gate and the frame was slightly plum in the sunlight.

I really wanted the .357 revolver.

But, he had done a bit of research and decided to pull back on his price of $250. He had printed up a sheet with prices on a bunch of guns including these and given the list to a friend. The friend forwarded the list to me so I drove over to see these two guns (the only two I was interested in).

I guess I was too nice. After I talked up the gun, he decided $250 was too cheap. I offered him $300 but he declined. It told him that it wasn't a gun I needed or really even wanted, which is totally true. I have no use for the gun and had never desired one.

But after seeing it and working that old action and gazing into the deep dark blue and seeing that old school writing on the left side of the barrel, my mind said, "BUT IT!" I couldn't go wrong for just $250! Or even $300!

I wouldn't flip it for a profit, I would just have another neat old gun that was too good to pass up.

I'm better off with the cash still in my pocket but I sure wish I could have bought it for that $250!
