preference between UPS and Fed Ex for shipping guns?

Locally, I've found Fed Ex to be both less expensive and the shipping office people far more pleasant and cooperative.

I ship UPS daily at work, but both are going to be ok as it'll be Next Day Air either way. Firearms are supposed to go NDA. It boils down to a personal preference, and/or which one has a routing/shipping facility closest to you.
In my 6 years shipping parts across the country, to Canada, New Zealand, Chile and Uruguay (most common international locations) I've only had one package damaged and one package routed incorrectly (NDA to S Carolina, routed to Denmark lol). I ship between 55-65 packages a month, plus about that many inbound for just UPS alone.
There will always be a negligent driver that gets a box crushed, or there might be some poor taping and it comes open mid shipment. I prefer UPS, just because of how often I deal with them, plus I can generate labels from my desk and have anything picked up on a weekday.

I'll probably try Fed Ex first since they accept handguns with no question at their neighborhood facilities. I called a nearby UPS Store and they almost had apoplexy at the thought, and almost screamed that I had to go to their main facility (a PITA for me).

Ask Ruger if they will send you a label. That way you won't have to wait for a refund from them.
The clear winner is UPS. My warranty work with my LCP was shipped UPS because Ruger provides the free UPS shipping label as part of their warranty policy. Make sure you ask Ruger for your shipping label for UPS. They E-mail (or mail) your UPS shipping label and all you do is pack your gun, attach the label and bring it to a UPS hub. Fed-Ex labels are provided by S&W for their warranty work. I've used both and both did the job quickly enough for free. But, yeah, Ruger pays the freight on warranty work.onfinal said:

FFL's can ship Priority Mail. Even if your FFL charges you it will still be less than paying NDA on your own dime.

I've used UPS to ship Long guns to Ruger and FedEx to ship handguns to Spring field armory. Both I could print the shipping label form anywhere. I've had good service with both. gf

Both the FFL that I deal with and I have had problems with FedEx at the receiving end. If no one answers the door, you have to go to the regional facility which is 40 miles away to pick up the package. No second attempt to deliver. With UPS they, at least, let a note with a four hour window for next delivery and stop back two more times before you have to go to the regional facility, also forty miles away. The frustration for me, is that I live in the country at the end of a long lane in an old stone farmhouse (you can't hear outside noises inside the house). Both of them blow the horn on the way in the lane and leave if nobody is waiting outside for them. Neither one knocks or rings the door bell. Just a quick run to the door with the note. That might work in a development, but it doesn't work for me. Sorry for the rant, but it's frustrating and phone calls to their centers haven't changed anything. The mailman, comes to the door and knocks.
