Possibly looking for an optic for my mark 3 hunter and would like to know whats best for the range and what for hunting.

I've tried both on my 3-screw SBH, and I'd say the reflex style sight affords a better view of your surroundings and proposed target. But man, I always had a hard time finding the dot on the "screen" after the first shot. The tube style red dot forces you to concentrate on that circle, and, for me, made acquiring the dot easier. Eventually, I settled on the Millett tube-type sight that I've used for many years.

Tried a reflex but would get sunglare at certain times of day and direction went with a Ultradot Matchdot II and now 25 yards is easy and 50 yards almost so. http://www.ultradotwest.com/ultradot_2008_005.htm

I have tried the red dots and I have a astigmatism that makes the dots a little blurry and found that I did not like the dot size ( one thing to think about ) I believe Ultradot and Millet make a 2Mill dot size. I ended up using a scope, I could get precise groups at the range and it would also be good for hunting. Maybe a lower power scope 2X or a 4X maybe be more to you're liking. Just some food for thought.
