Well, guess I voted first. Commander size. It's the only acceptable modification to the original 1911 that I'm comfortable with.

Finish? I really prefer stainless, but more than that, I would really like to see Rugers "blackened" stainless as an option.

WAYNO.

I'd like to see them get enough of the full-sized ones shipped out to satisfy the current demand.

That said, I'd think a Commander-sized version would sell well.

And I'd like blue versions of both.

:)

How about a Ruger logo Commander slide, barrel & spring kit that we current SR1911 owners could change out for carry options

That and a 22lr conversion kit would be sweet!

I'm with you. Have never completely trusted 1911s with barrel shorter than 4 1/4".

Saint John Browning designed/built a lot of "slack"* into the original 1911. The Colt engineers tightened all of it out with the Commander. You go any farther than that IMHO, you're dancing on thin ice as far as functioning and reliability. :?

*Not really the correct term, I know. I am NOT talking about the tightness or looseness of the parts fit.

I would really like to see the Officer's version, some type of blackened stainless or other finish applied. With the smaller version of the 1911 also add front strap serrations and ambi dextritous thumb safety

Won't work. The 1911 and Commander frames are different internally, in the area where the recoil spring seats. A Commander-type slide won't work on an unmodified 1911 frame.

If you just whack an inch or inch and a quarter off the front of a 1911 slide, first off the gun looks weird, but more importantly you now have the much-reduced recoil spring space of an Officers Model and have to go with some kind of alternative recoil spring system. And IMHO these aren't as reliable as the simple 1911 recoil spring.

Also, the resulting gun won't go in a fitted Commander holster due to differences in the frame and slide cuts.

Been there, done that.

I vote Commanders slide on an Officers sized frame. Best of all worlds.
My kid has a Kimber made like that. Dandy little gun and it seems to function 100%. I got him a Ciener .22 conversion for it, too, and that also works great on the little thing.

There is a thread going on 1911forum claiming Ruger has already made a Commander size and that he was picking up from the LGS today. No pics yet, so no proof but never know..

pics are halfway down on page 2 . http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?p=4240169#post4240169

Yep its real, even listed on the Ruger web site. I voted for the Bobtail Comander, I would like something a little different (already have the Colt). I would also like to see a Longslide model and some 9mm & 10mm guns.

Hi guys. I'm new here, but I had to offer a comment. I've been hoping that Ruger would step just a little outside the box and use the best features of a couple of other mfrs in a new compact 1911. Kimber's Super Carry Ultra + has a full size grip and 8+1 capacity, but I prefer a lower price and a longer barrel than 3", say 3.5". This would be my choice in a concealed carry 1911. The shorter barrel would aid drawing from an IWB holster, while the full size grip would provide a better grip on the gun, as well as a full 8 round magazine. An aluminum frame would be nice for the weight. Oh yes, and you can go back to the black grip panels like were on the SR1911 prototype.

I sent these specs to the Ruger CEO a while back, and in return, I received a Ruger baseball cap. Nice gesture, but I was hoping for not a gift but rather a chance to buy a compact Ruger 1911. A 4.25" Commander is not compact enough for my needs. Of course, my wish gun was not even a choice in this poll.
