Have a new stainless Mini 14. Just put a Mo-Rod stainless strut on it. There is a serious differnece in the finish. The Mini's finish kind of looks like a duct tape color, while the Mo-Rod is more traditional stainless. Anyone ever use Flitz or Mother's on their Mini SS finishes to shine them up?

I would suggest trying to dull the finish on the Mo-Rod instead....

not just because there is less to 'polish' but shiny guns have always given me the creeps.

I'm sure some of the 'smiths' here can give you an idea of how to buff down the rod. I've always liked the Ruger target grey on the stainless steel rifles.

How do I dull the finsih? I had a barrel NP3'ed from Robar to make it stainless, and it came back the same color. 5 minutes with Flitz and it shone. I'd rather dull down the Mo-Rod, but how would i do that?

Another option is to use one of those green Scotch-Brite kitchen scrub pads. Just buff it till you get the matte finish you desire.

Scotchbrite works well, and you may want to get a couple different grades/grits at the hardware store. Or a couple of polishing bobs to use in a die grinder from an industrial supply house. A good place to look is McMasterCarr.com.
