Pocket Knives

I grew up on a western Kansas farm and always carried a pocket knife. I grew to like the Camillus stockman type knife and still have a couple of those I carried on the farm. These days I don't often carry a pocket knife since I travel frequently for business and I find I can't seem to remember to leave the knife at home when I head to the airport.

Currently I lean more towards a multi-tool type knife and my current pocket knife for working around the house or hunting is a WW II vintage electricians knife made by Camillus (a blade that sharpens and keeps an edge and the handy screw driver/scraper blade). Thinking about the multi-tool functional knives I dug out an oldie (probably 1920s vintage) that you may not have seen before:

Pretty cool and as useful as ever. I've some old knifes from uncles and Grandpa. I guess some are collectable and valuable now. I've a CaseXX combo, knife to hatchet, all in one sheath. An uncle worked in the Case knife factory. stevemb

I bet your Uncle seen some very nice knives over the years! J/S

The Camillus you have shown, the TL-29, was the standard issue knife to all the helicopter mechanics in the Army during Vietnam. I had mine for years, but disappeared.

Grandpa was fond of Circle UMC knives. I've a pocket knife and a skinner of a sheath knife, from him. The sheath long ago rotted away. stevemb

I carried a Camillus Cub Scout knife starting about age 8 or 9, then moved up to the Camillus Boy Scout Knife. Then I carried a Camillus USGI pocketknife for many years. For the last 25 or so I've carried the Victorinox Adventurer (same one all this time), and for about the last four or five, have added a CRKT M16. Good stuff! :wink:

Camillus knives are hard to beat. I have one that was given to me by my daughter and it is my favorite knife.

Over the years I have had, and lost, several pretty nice pocket knives . . . starting in grade school.

Admitting I have a "dropsy" problem, I several years ago bought a cheap little Mini Buck lockback . . . 1-3/4" stainless blade, some kinda black plastic frame, and weighs next to nothing. It fits nicely in the "watch pocket" of my jeans and apparently I'll never lose it. It accomplishes almost all the knife-related things I run into. For everthing else, there's the Leatherman Supertool on my belt.

While I appreciate nice pocket knives, I cannot rationalize losing any more of them.

My Great Grandpa carried one of those Morley knives with the wire cutter pliar on it, When he passed I looked and looked for it and never did find it so I guess one of my relatives grabbed it, sure wish I had it now
