Members dodged a bullet yesterday with a scammer. This is the second time in recent months a long time member was hacked and impersonated here …. and on other forums. Many thanks to the members who pressed the "Report" button.

Your help is needed to avoid such things. Here's what you can do and should know.

~ Change your password often
~ Do not use the same password on more than one site
~ Use more difficult passwords that include upper case, lower case, numbers and symbols
~ Be wary of payments methods like Venmo, Zelle, PP F&F, etc
~ Use caution if a seller wants to communicate outside the forum PM (Conversation) system
~ If it sounds too good to be true, it likely is
~ Don't be an anxious buyer
~ Yes, it can happen to YOU

Buyer was not burned, always skeptical when prices are too low to be real. There is an occasion when something is listed at a low price, no harm no foul saying you will take it and then bail when it goes sideways. This scammer was so adamant payment be made right away, huge red flag. Then he provided a second email to me when I told him paypal was not working on the first. Another red flag as who has two emails registered with paypal. I tried to get his Zelle contact info from him, but he was dumped before I could get that additional bit and pass it along.

There is some satisfaction in dangling the bone for some of these scum bags, letting them feel they have a working scam. Not as much as them getting caught, but what are the odds that ever happens.

Unless you know the seller, Always assume its a scam and you will be good to go.

I LIKE to have a two way conversation with whoever I'm selling to or buying from. My last purchase on this forum was MK II target grips. The seller and I communicated, he mailed the grips and I mailed the check. For me and him, it was a good way to weed out a scammer. If you're interested in this, you probably have enough experience to know if someone is a scammer buy their knowledge level. Just sayin

All the password advice is good… as far as it goes. But what you should do is use a password manager. There are free ones. I have hundreds and hundreds of passwords and multiple devices to sync… so it is well worth paying Dashlane to me.

You are right, don't reuse passwords. If it is hacked on one site, then it can be tried on other ones. With a password manager you can have a unique password for every site. And each password can be 10-12 or more characters long. And those characters are a totally random mix… nothing for anyone to guess. No birthdays or pet names or any of that.

Demo:… I go into Dashlane and request a new 12 character password. I'll do it now… here is the response: G#&D7!NzzGs&

With Dashlane you only need to remember one password. One long and complicated password you can remember and that can't be easily guessed. That's your Master Password. Everything else is just random chaos… encrypted both ways. Dashlane doesn't even know your passwords so a hack on them wouldn't affect you.

A good password manager is your best online friend!

If this is about the post for the 686 for about 500.00 it fooled me, sometimes a guy catches a great deal like that and the identity of the poster was a name I was familiar with here.
I wasn't in the market but I definitely got fooled.
