Please, help me decide which ones to buy.........

Please, help me to decide which of these Rugers would be the best ones to buy. I am in the market for a couple/few blued SA Rugers. I found several guns, at a local gun shop, but can't decide which ones I like best. Some of these guns would be shooters while others might just end up keeping my other guns company in the old safe. Here's the list (these are all blued guns, and 98% or better condition):

1. NM BH, 50th Aniversary, flat top, NIB, 44 mag.......$500 OTD

2. NM SBH, used - 98%, with box, 44 mag, 7.5" barrel..........$400 OTD

3. NM BH, Bisley, used - 98%, with box, 357 mag, 7.5" barrel.......$475 OTD

4. NM BH, Bisley, used - 98%, with box, 44 Mag, 7.5" barrel........$500 OTD

5. An old Super Bearcat in the cardboard box, MINT (never fired).......$475 OTD

6. NM BH, Convertible, wood Ruger grips, used - 99%, with box, 45/45acp, 5.5" barrel....$475 OTD

7. Mark II, used -never fired, with box, 10" barrel......$375 OTD


I want to get two or three of these guns, this week, but I just can't seem to make up my mind as to which ones I should choose. I have a decent number of guns already. So, I don't NEED any particular caliber or style. I just want to pick up two or three blued guns. I have mostly stainless guns, as of now, and would like to add some blued ones to my collection.

Please, make a case as to which ones YOU would choose (2 or 3 guns) out of the ones that I have listed. Hopefully, I can learn something, about these guns, that will help me to make some wise choices. I am on the fence with just about all of these. Thanks in advance for your suggestions/comments. Oh, I'm only looking to spend around $1000 on this purchase. I can go over that amount, if I MUST, but I would like to keep this purchase around the thousand dollar mark if possible.

easy for me, #5,6,7...the others are too high......
I like 22's cheap to shoot, they are classics and the 45 convertible is a bit tougher to find, boxed and in nice shape.....

Just MY .02 cents.................gotta buy what YOU like and to fill in "voids" of what ever other guns you may have.....

I agree with Rugerguy. Most of them are over priced.
Fer instance, you can get No 1 from CDNN for $369 + 18 shipping.

#1 is WAY too high considering they're easily found for a lot less now. #2, not a bad price but not a steal either. #3 & #4...I love Bisleys but even those I'd scoff at having prices like that. #5 sounds like the best deal in that group. But if in that good of shape it's a safe queen IMO. Not the choice if you want a shooter. #6 is another I'd have to scoff at as it's about $75 more than what I'd expect to see it tagged at. Finally, #7...the orange in the basket of apples here but while a bit high, I think it's the one to grab. Fewer of those seen now a days and they're great shooters.

I'd go with #2 and either #6 or 7.
My thoughts are that any Ruger SA fan with the means to do so should own a classic 7 1/2" Super Blackhawk. I don't have one yet but it's on the list and if I had $1k to spend that'd be my first purchase.

The other two seemed the most unique to Ruger and seem to be a bit less common. Were it me, my second purchase would be targeted at trying to find a stainless .45 convertible, like the Accusport Bisley but I know that you are setting out to add to your blued guns.

I for one, don't see paying $50-75 "too much" as being the end of the world, thought it is nice to feel like you got a great deal.

*edited to add: #1 is a bad deal. Even with shipping and transfer fees you can get one for about $100 less. That's a 20% variance.

I would agree with the others, not knowing your intended use, #7, the 10" barrel versions are pretty scarce and sought after.

You don't seem to be very excited over any of these choices. I know that I'm not either. I would advise you to buy John Taffin's book SINGLE-ACTION SIXGUNS and read it well...and then decide on what kind of gun and caliber will fuel your fire.
The book is about $26. I have it and others; it's a good one.
We are happy to help you, but you didn't give us much to go on.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions, folks. I know that all of these prices aren't going to make me "laugh all the way to the safe." However, these are all out-the-door prices and these guns all look near mint. So, they aren't too far off of the average. I'm not too worked up about price as I am over selecton. I've never really been in the business of "sticking it" to my local business owners just for the chance to tell people that I got a gun for $40 dollars less than another guy paid for his. That's just not my style. I like getting a good deal (as do most of us) but not at the expense of going overboard with the price shopping.

Anyway, I've been thinking.....it's looking like I'm leaning towards picking up #3, #6 and #7.

#3 for the fact that blue 357 bisleys are not all that common

#6 for the 5.5 barrel length, no turn ring(s), and I like 45 colt's

#7 for the long 10" barrel length, these are getting kind of scarce.....no gamble on this purchase, IMO

Here are the reasons why I think I'll pass on the others:

Pass on #1 because it would probably just end up as a safe queen anyway.....no fun.

Pass on #2 becuase these are very common and I will always be able pick up a NIB SBH in the future (for another shooter to have around)

Pass on #4 because I've decided on the 357 bisley instead of this one.

Pass on #5 because this one would be a safe queen too...I would be too tempted to shoot it...I'll get a newer one someday....one I wont mind shooting.

Thanks again for your inputs. Believe it or not, it has helped me to hear some of your comments. I know that gun preferences are almost always subjective in nature. However, sometimes others see things in a gun that I would have never considered had I never asked. I'll be sure to post pics and range reports in a couple of weeks. This nice early-spring weather has got me itching to blast off some rounds.

IMO, no 3 is too much gun a for "just" a .357.
If I ended up with a gun like that, I's have to track down a second cylinder and chamber it to .357 B&D or .356 GNR. ..or get both...

no 6 is definately a win.
For me, a steel grip frame and SBH hammer would be on order the day I plunked my money down on it.

I don't leave well enough alone, as a rule.

No, both the 357 and the 44 bisley cylinders are the standard style, non-fluted and engraved....I used to own this EXACT model (the 357). I traded it in, a while back, and kind of regret it. This gun shoots extremely well and I know it's history. I only shot about 100 rounds through it. So, it's still fairly "new." I guess that adds to why I was wanting to pick this one up....or should I say pick it BACK up?

I have never seen a bisley with a fluted cylinder. I bet you those would bring a pretty penny.

#6 & #7

6 for the caliber and barrel length, as I'm partial to the 5.5", and 7 for the barrel length. That seems to be a reasonable price, as most I've seen lately have been in the $475-500 range for the 10".

I'd use the multiple sale to get the price down on the .45 Colt. :wink:

Well, I ended up getting two of the Rugers from my list today. I went with #6 and #7.

I'll have a lot of fun with a 5.5 inch Blackhawk Convertible (45/45).

Also, those blue MK II's with the 10 inch barrels are pretty neat "little" guns. I have always wanted one.

Anyway, thanks to all of you guys for helping me narrow things down to a couple of decent choices. I'm still going to think about getting one of those Bisleys too. I hope they don't sell for a little while. Thanks again, everyone.

I actually picked one up a couple months ago on G/B. It's an OM Vaquero Bisley, case color with the faux ivory grips, and yes, a fluted cylinder. It's like new and I got it for just under $400. Not sure the guy even knew what it was, he didn't put "Bisley" in the description, I spotted the hammer right off in the picture, then the grip shape and snapped it up. I'm real happy with it.

Unfortunately we mis-placed our camera somehow recently, (my wife thinks my grandaughter put it in the garbage)! I guess I'm going to have to admit it's gone for good and buy another one soon. When I do I have lots of pictures to take and share with the forum members, including the SS Single Six with the grips I just got from Cary Cashman installed. I promise I'll get it done soon.
